The third Sunday of July was designated in the USA as National Ice Cream Day, in fact even July is the Ice Cream Month since 1984. It seems that the those who celebrate this National Day have to thank President Ronald Reagan for it! He wanted to commemorate a treat enjoyed by over 90 percent of the nation’s population and produced by 10% of the nation’s milk supply. When Reagan’s proclamation was officially signed into law, he also called on the U.S. people to pay tribute to ice-cream with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

What-a-Melon | Ice cream inspiration from Dominique Ansel

The ice cream, called What-a-Melon, is made with fresh watermelon juice and ‘seeds’ made of dark chocolate. We here in the Netherlands are longing for some sunshine! But we haven’t spotted Spring yet although some ice cream parlors are opening their doors. And we do spot more and more ice cream on our timeline, like recently the 24Karat gold ice cream made by Snowopolis in Anaheim, California. They serve a scope of vanilla soft ice cream packed in edible gold leaf. You could even use a spray with edible gold or silver, which makes it even easier to make this ‘very Instagrammable’ ice cream! read more

Pasta | From Donut alla Bolognese to spaghetti ice cream

A year ago we ate at restaurant Contraste in Milan a truly delicious ‘Donut alla Bolognese’, a dish you won’t forget! The nice thing is that the dish puts you on the wrong track, only the resemblance in the   shape reminded me of a donut. You can do many things with pasta and in this article I have collected a number of examples. Now I have to admit that a number of ‘hip, trendy’ pasta dishes have been known for a long time, for example I used to make a ‘spaghetti alla Carbonara’- pie in my student days. And my student days have been behind me for several decades! On our Pinterest page we made an ‘Italian Inspiration’ wall with photos and videos of various trendy pasta dishes. Kanazawa ice cream | Ice cream that doesn’t melt!

The Biotherapy Development Research Centre in Kanazawa (Japan) has developed ice cream that does not melt. The ice was accidentally discovered and named after the city where the discovery was made: Kanazawa ice cream. The non-melting ice cream is now sold in some parts of Japan and can stay in the sun for a while and still maintain the cold taste and its shape. read more

Ice cream | A list for the lovers

One of the unique characteristics of ice cream is the fact that it combines very well with several products. In May we already published a bucket list with ice cream parlours but in the meanwhile we already posted 10 more stories about ice cream.
