The Riviera Music Lounge opened in the basement of the Riviera Hotel in Benidorm (Spain). It is a New York Jazz club with the warm atmosphere of a hidden club and it has live music as main attraction. Special features are the backlighted marble bar, that fills the room with a magical golden light, and the walls, that are mainly covered with the names and portraits of famous jazz masters.

GRO Mushrooms has developed a home cultivation kit that allows consumers to grow fresh mushrooms within 10 days. The DIY Mushroom Farm Kit is packaged in a handy takeaway box and filled with leftover coffee grounds from coffee bars. You just open the bag, put it in water and occasionally spray it with water. Pop-up insect restaurant

On 4 June pop-up insect restaurant ‘Pestaurant’ will open in Utrecht. Pest control company ‘Rentokil’ opens the pop-up restaurant to ask attention in a playful way for pest control. A chef cook specialized in preparing dishes with insects will make mini muffins with Buffalo worms, chocolate grasshoppers, sour cream crickets and barbecue mealworms. The entomologist of Rentokil will also tell the latest trends and developments in the field of insect pests and pest control in the Netherlands.

Lying concerts in Concertgebouw

On 10 July, two lying concerts take place at ‘Het Concertgebouw’ in Amsterdam. Visitors can listen to the famous Dutch classical piece Simeon ten Holts Canto ostinato while lying on the floor. Pianist Jeroen van Veen and four friends will perform the concert on four grand pianos. Before the concert there will be a relaxing yoga class by yoga teacher Jan Kuiper.

Chef cook Julien Piguet and his team will provide a complete boat experience on the canals by serving their dishes aboard. The ‘Bluespoon on Board’ menu includes salads, sandwiches, appetizers, mains and desserts. You can order via the website, phone or email and the order can be picked up at the restaurant after 30 minutes.

Pop-up restaurant with foretaste CHIO Rotterdam

CHIO Rotterdam opens in cooperation with Oseven pop-up restaurant Schoufour, located in the Grandstand CHIO building in Rotterdam. The pop-up restaurant will be open from 15 to 24 May. The menu contains a range of dishes that also will be served during the 66th edition of CHIO Rotterdam. CHIO Rotterdam is a renowned and international equestrian event which takes place from 18 till 22 June. Restaurant Schoufour will also be opened during the event, a part of the current menu will be served in Brasserie Top Gun as well.

FG BBQ Champ

Star chef François Geurds is looking for the best barbecue master of the Netherlands and organizes a barbecue contest on the terrace of FG Food Labs on 3 August. Ten amateur cooks will compete with each other and they will cook out of a mystery-box on the Big Green Egg (barbecue) for ten guests. These guests will also judge the dishes without knowing who prepared the dish. The winner can call himself FG BBQ Champ for one year and will receive the Big Green Egg.

Restaurants with a blend of history

Thrillist.com gives an overview of 21 restaurants and bars converted from different buildings. Like ‘The Airplane Restaurant’, a restaurant located in a 1953 US Air Force Boeing KC-97 Stratotanker. Or the ‘Crop Bar and Bistro’, a gigantic 1925 bank with marble columns rebuilt into a restaurant with high-end dishes and an open kitchen. The video above is from ‘The Liberty’ in Boston. Previously this building was a gigantic prison, built in 1851. After a massive renovation, the building converted into a hotel with five chic restaurants and bars. Vega pop-up about to sprout in Amsterdam

Friedjof Kempenaar initiated a vega pop-up restaurant in Rotterdam on 11, 12 and 13 April and is now aiming for our capital. Although he is not a vegetarian, he is intrigued by cooking without fish and meat and is convinced that the available vegan dishes in restaurants deserve an uprgade. While he is looking for a location in Amsterdam to sit 70 people per evening, you can delight yourself with an impression of the latest edition here.
