The Bletchley is a new cocktail bar concept inspired by the works of Alan Turing (mathematician) and the fictional spy Sherlock Holmes. Are you a real mathematician, have you ever fantasized being Sherlock Holmes or are you good in solving puzzles? Than you should go to The Bletchley in Chelsea, London. At The Bletchley you’ll only get your personalized cocktail once you’ve cracked some puzzles, so they invite you to show your detective skills.

The Bletchley | About the history and the idea

Alan Turing was a mathematician who, during the Second World War, worked for the Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS) at Bletchley Park, Britain’s codebreaking center that produced Ultra intelligence. They broke the code of the German Enigma machine which was a big accomplishment and partly because of this the war was won.

At The Bletchley, you will enter a hidden underground bunker, an area where you will operate cipher machines and puzzles to decompose traits of your personality and preferences into code, consequently translated into ingredients for your cocktails. You should think of cipher machines, radio transmitters and a Sherlock style escape room all in a very immersive setting.

Sebastian Lyall, founder of Lollipop, the immersive experience group behind The Bletchley said: “We believe the future of hospitality lies in the interaction with, and personalization of the product we are consuming.” The Bletchley will provide you with tools to decrypt your personality and odor preferences into ingredients of a cocktail.

Each recipe will be unique to every customer, never to be used again, making The Bletchley the first bar to create an immersive, signature cocktail experience entirely designed and catered to your taste, desire and personality. “This is our first step towards creating a truly personalized cocktail menu. We will also be exploring techniques involving the genetic code and DNA and strive to understand unique taste preferences.”

The Bletchley has opened its doors on the 17th of March. To date, over 7,000 curious detectives are on the waiting list. The location of The Bletchley is a mystery, the location will only be revealed to you once you have booked tickets. The booking fee is £29.99 and includes three cryptic cocktails and two hours inside the room.

Cocktail bar Dr. in Rotterdam is also located in a mysterious location and revealed to visitors once they have booked tickets. Instead of being a detective, you’re a patient in a doctors’ office (the bar).
