Finger cookies are ideal for dipping in chocolate, caramel or syrup. Last year Italian designer Paolo Ulian came up with the idea of the cookies which are designed to fit perfectly on your fingers. The best city hotel we have had the pleasure to visit! The World Heritage city of Porto has an iconic hotel, The Yeatman. With a breath-taking position overlooking the Douro River and the historic city centre, The Yeatman offers a great place to stay with stunning panoramic views from the terraces, the indoor and exterior pool (in the shape of a port bottle), the rooms and restaurants. Some of the small gestures of hospitality from The Yeatman, the naming of the rooms, the design elements, the housekeeping & maintenance and of course the friendly approach from all the staff. read more
Another fine example of latte art. We wrote about 3D latte art in 2013, but Leo’s Espresso in Hong Kong takes this to the next level and makes the 3D art (which are mostly animals) ‘jiggle’ in your coffee. The 3D animals are made of milk foam, Latte Art 2.0. read more

The Netherlands is a real potato country. Because of the excellent climate potatoes have been growing there for centuries. They are cheap and every Dutchie has his ‘own’ potato dish. A product to be proud of! However, knowing that the potato is one of the most wasted vegetable in the country is less inspiring. It’s actually a bit of a shame, as there are plenty of products which can be made out of the remains. To inspire we gathered some examples of drinks made from almost ‘wasted’ potatoes. read more
The florist bakery named ‘Baked Bouquet’ is creating eatable cupcake bouquets. Although we know that the cupcake trend has long been finished, we got really excited when we saw a couple of bouquets of the Baked Bouquet at pictures. Some inspiration for the catering companies: place the cupcake bouquets at dessert buffets. read more

Golden Tulip Hotel ‘De Reiskoffer’ (translated: the travel suitcase) in Bosschenhoofd, Noord Brabant (the Netherlands) uses storytelling quite some years now. Dirt Candy was one of the first restaurants in New York that focused on the vegetarian cuisine, one of the initiators of today’s vegetarian trend, ‘veg-only food in a modern context’. The restaurant menu is completely vegetarian of high quality and a great way to present the food on the plates. Of course we do have some great examples of vegetarian only restaurants in Europe as well, we visited for example Cookies Cream in Berlin. Both restaurants are a great example for those restaurants only serving a ‘standard’ alternative, like salads with goat cheese or cheese croquettes, to their vegetarian guests. They have tasted those alternatives to often…. If you don’t want to serve to fancy dishes check out the products of for example The Vegetarian Butcher.

Villa De Bear can be found in an old teddy bear factory, situated in the west of Bangkok. If we are talking about special concepts and storytelling around your brand, this restaurant should be named. Although the production of teddy bears in this factory stopped a long time ago, the history of the property is still clearly visible. A perfect example of a concept which is conducted in detail. read more

On June 16 it is Father’s Day again. The steakhouse ‘Midtown Grill’ of the Marriott Hotel in Amsterdam organizes a nice photo shoot. Fathers with sons can take a picture in cooking clothes, surrounded by cooking utensils in the kitchen of Midtown Grill. They will pose with the famous dish of the restaurant, the sea salt grilled T-bone steak of 3.5 pounds. After the shoot they can eat the dish together.
On a regular basis we hear that the ideas we show at our website are too far from the daily reality of the restaurant or hotel entrepreneur. There is too little time to bring ideas, with your own twist, in practice. We recently visited Paris and at two restaurants we had the opportunity to enjoy one dessert for the whole table. A giant profiterole filled with ice-cream and topped with chocolate at Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie. Not a great dessert in looks but delicious chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Based on the sharing part I made a ‘Meringue Peche Melba’ this weekend, fresh peach and raspberry combined with meringue and fresh strawberry sauce and ice-cream, for 4 persons on one plate. And if you prepare this dessert on the table, by breaking the gigantic meringue, your dessert becomes even more spectacular! This idea is based on the video of the dessert for the whole table of Alinea, Chicago. Watch the video once again on what they do with the chocolate ball! This is an example of how you can use ideas and make them your own, enjoy being creative! Your guest certainly will with a dessert like this! ^Marjolein
Just to show you how immense popular the éclairs are at the moment in France. In February we already reported about the savory eclairs being popular in Paris. This time we spotted them during the Rolland Garros French Open. French sportswear brand Lacoste celebrated its 80th anniversary during this tournament with limited-edition éclairs by French bakery Fauchon. More iconic French brands were invited to participate at the event and each came up with a unique product inspired the Lacoste crocodile logo.
PSFK placed great pictures of the new NY Library in Harlem where teenagers can interact, play video games, eat snacks, and hang out without having to worry about parents’ or elders’ eyes watching. Harlem’s Hamilton Grange branch is home to this full-floor 4,400-square-foot hangout space specially dedicated to teenagers. There only two librarians on watch from one end of the room. The space includes a 20-foot-diameter glass wall where they can play Wii and Guitar Hero available with special speakers preventing much of the noise from filtering out. The NY Public Library also provides summer readings for kids. Watch the movie for this hospitable gesture to kids. Getting the kids back into the library and sharing reading experience online.

The ‘Croque Monsieur’ Rap By Wordburglar pays homage to the classic French sandwich. The YouTube video features a lot of Croque Monsieurs. Wordburglar is far from the first rapper to express his love of food, though. Check The Huffpost Taste for a list of food raps. And we would like to suggest a rap to pay homage to our classic Dutch ‘Bitterbal’.

The official twitter stream of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. Tweeting for global travelers, collectors of #RCMemories and lovers of #luxury. We do not often see examples of hotels using the ‘promoted by’ opportunity via Twitter. Recently we spotted the above mentioned tweet promoted by @RitzCarlton: ‘Travel inspires the most treasured memories. Share yours on @twitter & @instagram with #RCMemories. We can’t wait to see what you discover‘. They gather photos taken by their guest at #RCMemories at Twitter and Instagram. Thus the story of vacationing at the Ritz-Carlton locations worldwide are told through pictures by their guests. Great marketing campaign! And inspiration for each hotel or restaurant. As to come up with a hash tag for your own business is easy. Getting your guest to send in pictures is a challenge! We contribute to the #RCMemories by placing the picture of the Bathmenu from the Ritz-Carlton in Kuala Lumpur. Also shown in our booklet ‘Royal hospitable gestures‘.
McDonald’s has taken a fresh approach with their most recent advertising campaign called “Think With Your Mouth”. Created by New York-based ad agency Translation, the outcome is a series of 20-second videos, which all feature a Big Mac as the centerpiece. Each of the videos has a distinct style with the goal of appealing to a different segment of Internet users. With this tactic they aim to increase the number of people who are likely to click on any one of the company’s videos, thus increasing the effectiveness of the ad campaign.
The Ibis hotels introduced their most comforting hotel bed ever with this ad. More information at #ibisbunnies and if you like them at Facebook you can even see more exclusive behind-the-scenes YouTube videos.
Johann opened the ‘Saint Jean’ bar in the center of Berlin in January. The bar is mainly focused on long drinks with the not so usual gin or vodka and a broad selection of whiskeys and tequilas. Saint Jean has a robust, neutral look without too many details. The bar is made of wooden planks this gives it a tough look. Great inspiration to make a bar out of waste wood or an old wooden floor.

The Whoopie Pie is not well known in the Netherlands. Whoopie Pie consists of two small cases in the form of a cookie with in between a filling. It looks like a macaron made out of cake. Bombay Sapphire gin has recently introduced a new gin; the Bombay Sapphire East. This gin contains 12 different herbs.
