Meet, enjoy and make memories at Harper Restaurant

At Restaurant Harper, guests are welcome to enjoy unexpected flavor combinations, a cup of coffee with something sweet, a glass of wine from the carefully curated wine list or a sumptuous dinner, all day long. The new restaurant is housed in a monumental building from 1731, spread over several floors and has a beautiful terrace. The decor is classic with a touch of modern, and a homely character. A place where every guest quickly feels at home. Culinary inspiration comes from the enthusiastic team from all over the world.

Restaurant Harper is located in the middle of the Royal shopping district. A place brimming with history, where inns were located and Vincent van Gogh once worked. It was and still is a lively place. It’s a square where people gather, memories are made, beautiful stores are located and where you can enjoy great food, drinks and the great ambiance. An ideal place for a fine restaurant. Harper is spread over several intimate levels. In the basement, you have a view on the open kitchen, where the chefs perform their skills. From the mezzanine, you overlook the cozy bar and terrace. The Upper Room on the second floor can be booked for private events and offers an amazing view of the Plaats and Hofvijver. A perfect space for private dining, a meeting, drinks, business meeting or private event.

“You don’t need silver cutlery to eat well. For me, food is as much about the moment, the occasion, the location and your company as it is about the taste.”

Kevin Gerrits, Owner/ Manager

Dishes that evoke a feeling

The chefs from the Harper restaurant draw their culinary inspiration from cuisines around the world. They cook with fresh seasonal ingredients. Traditional cooking styles are translated into the present or given a special twist. The kitchen strives for the best quality and surprising combinations in dishes that evoke a feeling.

“Taste is memory. I am inspired by flavors from the past to which I am always trying to find new flavor combinations. There is always a notepad on my nightstand. Inspiration often comes unexpectedly.”

Nick ten Hagen, Head Chef

Restaurant Harper will be festively opened by the end of April. The restaurant will be open every day from 9 a.m. to midnight.

About Restaurant Harper

Restaurant Harper was born out of love and passion for the hospitality business. The 4 owners, Michael Tilkema, Melvin van der Meer, Kevin Gerrits & Piet Scholtes, together have over 100 years of experience within The Hague and the international hospitality industry. Michael and Melvin are well-known names in hospitality world of The Hague. Besides Harper they run the well-known establishments Jamey Bennett and Barlow. In December 2022, these gentlemen took over the location in which Restaurant Harper is located. For the years before, they passed the property daily and fantasized about the amazing things they could do with it. With great enthusiasm, a new hospitality concept was developed. To establish the right service and experience for guests, Kevin Gerrits was approached for reinforcement. Melvin and Michael knew it was his dream and passion to run his own business. Kevin is a host at heart and is in charge of Harper’s day-to-day operations. Pete Scholtes has worked as head chef at Jamey Bennett for 5 years and provides his vision and advice on the business as co-owner and executive chef. Nick ten Hagen is the executive chef at Restaurant Harper. He previously worked at restaurants including Restaurant Parkheuvel (**).
