At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, among other links to articles about a new site where DSM and Evonik started the commercial production of omega-3 fatty acids rich in EPA and DHA from natural marine algae for sustainable salmon farming. And JuiceBrothers opened their 9th store in Downtown Memphis, to celebrate this they serve a special Memphis Smoothie!

We spotted a hotel room with a very cool amenity, a full-sized flight simulator! If you want to book the room at the Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu you need to travel to Japan.

And another step in emancipation: Pampers announced that they will provide 5,000 baby changing tables for installation in public restrooms. This in response to the movement #SquatforChange! And Solar foods invented the Solein, a revolutionary natural protein source! And have you ever heard of Hala fruit?

A room with a very cool amenity – a full-sized flight simulator

The general manager of the Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu in Japan thought that the flight simulator would differentiate the brand from the thousands of other hotels in Tokyo. And it does! This ‘superior cockpit room that features a full-size Boeing 737-800 flight simulator will cost approximately $234,= and if you want to use the simulator it will cost an extra $277,=. The airport hotel is connected to Terminal 2 of Haneda International Airport in Tokyo. The installation did cost the brand about 10 million yen ($92,000)!

5,000 diaper changing tables in men’s restrooms!

Pampers announced commitment to provide 5,000 baby changing tables for installation in public restrooms. In 2018, Donte Palmer started a movement called #SquatforChange when the photo of him changing his son’s diaper in a public restroom went viral, leading to a partnership announced today with Pampers. Pampers got John Legend to get involved in their campaign. Pampers recognizes dads are more hands-on than ever and wants to help enable them to take the best care of their babies. As part of its ‘Love the Change’ campaign, Pampers is proud to announce they’re providing 5,000 changing tables for public restrooms across North America by 2021.

JuiceBrothers opens in Memphis, Tennessee (US)

Last Friday, July 12, the ninth branch of JuiceBrothers opened in Downtown Memphis. After six locations in Amsterdam and two in New York, the expansion to a third market is a fact. The JuiceBrothers location in Memphis has been opened together with the neighbouring Bar Ware, which both fall under franchisee and owner Libby Ware Wunderlich, and will act as extensions of each other. In honour of the opening in Memphis, a special Memphis smoothie will be on the menu throughout the month of August in all locations of JuiceBrothers.

Another unknown fruit | Hala fruit, that looks like an exploding planet

At the website of Fine Dining Lovers they love to show rare fruits! This time the hala fruit which is a large edible fruit made up of numerous segments called keys or cones and is found in Southeast Asia, eastern Australia, Pacific Islands and Hawaii. Also called the Tahitian screw pine or thatch screwpine, the hala fruit tree is one of the 750 or so trees that belong to the Pandanus species. The hala fruit tree can reach up to 14 metres in height, with a spiny trunk that grows between 5 – 11 metres in width. This is a large fruit that can be up to 30 cm long, with dozens to hundreds of segments (or phalanges, keys) that are attached together by a core, each being around 20 cm long. DSM and Evonik take next step in sustainable aquaculture | Veramaris facility in Blair (USA) starts commercial production

Royal DSM, a global science-based company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, together with Evonik recently celebrated the grand opening of their Veramaris 50-50 joint venture’s commercial-scale US$200 million production facility located in Blair, Nebraska (USA). This new site has started the commercial production of omega-3 fatty acids rich in EPA and DHA from natural marine algae for sustainable salmon farming. This innovation helps to reduce the pressure on wild fish stocks, supports the aquaculture industry to sustainably meet the rapidly growing global demand for seafood, and enables healthier fish for the consumer.
