Caffè Torino | First pop up Negroni bar in Belgium
Last week the first pop-up Negroni bar in Antwerp, Belgium opened. From the 30th of March until the 23th of April, you can enjoy this cocktail that consists of gin, vermouth and Campari in Martini Caffè Torino. Caffè Torino, previously opened the first pop-up vermoutbar in Belgium at the Oude Beestenmarkt in Ghent. They will only serve Negroni’s at this pop-up bar.
Poesiat & Kater | Beer&Bite tasting at one of the former biggest breweries in the Netherlands
Van Vollenhoven’s beer brewery ‘De Gekroonde Valk’ used to be the biggest brewery in the Netherlands. Last month, Van Vollenhoven’s’ successor opened in Amsterdam: brewery and tasting room Poesiat & Kater. The traditional and historic beers from Van Vollenhoven will be served here as well as a selection of Poesiat & Kater’s own developed beers. The food on the menu is tailored to the beers which makes it an interesting place for those who love beer and food-combinations, a small ‘Beer&Bite’ tasting is also a fun option.
Kill it, Eat it | Kill your meal before you can eat it
This month Bompas & Parr and the Mondrian London Botique Hotel will host the ‘Kill it, Eat it’ event, an experiential dining event that educates people about the much-overlooked path that food takes to their plate. During the event you’ll have to kill your own crab before you can eat it.
Tequila cloud | Hey, Visit Mexico it rains a lot in the Netherlands as well!
While most the tourism videos draw attention to beautiful beaches, impressive views and warm weather, Tourism Board Visit Mexico went for an outside-the-box- approach. In order to attract more German tourists to Mexico, Visit Mexico and ad agency Lapiz designed a tequila cloud, a cloud that rains tequila. For some of the tequila lovers, their dream came true.

vandeStreek beer | Brews the first alcoholfree IPA in the Netherlands
vandeStreek beer brewed the first alcohol-free IPA in the Netherlands. Nowadays, a lot of people love to drink alcohol-free beer (last year we consumed a whopping 18% more of alcohol-free beer in the Netherlands), but a real good and tasty alcohol-free IPA we haven’t seen yet. From now onwards, you can drink an alcohol-free IPA and drive or go the gym. The brewery is working at their Playground beer series and the IPA is one of them. It’s a limited edition, once the beer gets successful more will be brewed.
Bad Larry’s | Cold Hard Coffee
Bad Larry’s, the first-ever Cold Hard Coffee, is launching in the United States this May. Using local cold-brew company, Blackeye Roasting Co. as the source for its coffee ingredients. Bad Larry’s blends cold brew with malt for a sweetened and smooth boozy coffee. A perfect drink if you need a boost during a night out with friends.
Bikkelsauce | Remia introduces new way of eating fries
Last week Remia introduced their new ‘Bikkelsauce’ and to celebrate this, they introduced a new phenomenon: the ‘Bikkeltable’. On this special, custom-made, foil-wrapped table guests can enjoy a big portion of fries with sauce. The first ever ‘bikkeltable’ was introduced last Friday at Lunchroom Kruimeltje in the Dutch city Krimpen a/d IJssel, the city where the recipe of the Bikkelsauce was born.
4D-cinemas | Watching movies will become more exciting
Recently two 4D-cinemas opened in France and Norway. Watching movies at these cinemas will become even more exciting. During the movie, physical effects will be synchronized with the movie. In the Netherlands we currently have two small 4D-cinemas. There’s one at amusement park the ‘Efteling’ and chances are you’ve watched a 4D-movie in ‘Dolfinarium’ (Europe’s largest marine mammal park).
The Cheese Bar | A brick-and-mortar upgrade from a foodtruck
The Cheese Bar in Camden, London celebrates and promotes the best of British cheese by making irresistible grilled cheese sandwiches. After a successful crowdfunding campaign (reaching the funding target of £130,000 in 5 days), Mathew Carver has opened his first permanent restaurant located in the historic Camden Market on the 23rd of March. Mathew has been selling his sandwiches from The Cheese Truck (a converted 1970’s ice cream van) named ‘Alfie’ since 2014. From foodtruck to a real restaurant.
Wiedewietsaus | Biologic cannabis sauce
The Ter Marsch & Co pop-up burger bar in Amsterdam exists one year, time to celebrate! To do so, a special burger and fries sauce called ‘Wiedewietsaus’ has been developed. The biologic cannabis-infused mayonnaise is an ode to the Dutch and Amsterdam weed culture. The Wiedewietsaus is served in three hospitality businesses of the Ter Marsch family. This April Fools’ Day joke was so successful that they will be selling the Wiedewietsauce as from the end of this month.
Cake bars | Cake that looks like a frozen popsicle
No ice popsicles but cake bars or cake-on-a-stick, a new dessert at the Giovane Café at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver. The executive pastry chef Jeffry Kahle and his team created a collection of delicious flavours for their new line of Cake Bars. Choose from Raspberry Krunch, Coconut Pineapple, Chocolate 99 or Banana MC.
MingleMush The Hague | A mishmash of entertainment, food and drinks
In May 2017 a concept of (music) entertainment, food and drinks will open near The Hague Central Station. The MingleMush concept will feature fifteen food stands with different cultural foods, three bars, terraces, arcade games, a library with conversation pits and a stage. A combination of parties, live bands, events, spoken word, readings and singer-songwriters makes MingleMush a hospitality mishmash.

The concept was initiated by masterchef Angélique Schmeinck in 2003. CuliAir is a culinary enjoyment at the highest level, literally and figuratively. If you want to experience something special, from the beginning of April till September it’s possible to book a diner in this floating restaurant. The restaurant consists of 14 spots and is a once in a lifetime experience that’s expected to stay trendy in the upcoming years as well.

Last week the official launch of Tito’s Handmade Vodka took place in the Netherlands. This American brand was last year’s fastest-growing vodka brand in the world with a growth percentage of 64.5%. The vodka is 100% gluten-free and is made of corn, consists 40% alcohol and doesn’t have any added sugar or gelatine. That’s why it’s pure vodka.

Restaurant The Carter in Sydney, Australia is inspired by the queen and king of American pop culture: Beyoncé and Jay Z. The restaurant starts as a restaurant by day and transforms into a club with live entertainment in the evening. A must-see for fans.
Blue cheese and chocolate | A divine combination
Last week Betty Koster was cited in an article on NU.nl about the combination of blue cheese and chocolate. “Cheese and chocolate are a great combination” she said. By reading the article my thoughts took me back to the theory of cooking I had at the hotel school. Every week we got to see the serie Kitchen Chemistry by Heston Blumenthal. One of the episodes was entirely devoted to chocolate. How it is made and why it melts more quickly when it is not tempered? All these questions were answered in the episode about chocolate.
