Claridge’s Afternoon Tea at the Maybourne Beverly Hills

For the first time in its 150 year history, Claridge’s legendary afternoon tea will be served outside of its Mayfair home, and will take residency at sister hotel The Maybourne Beverly Hills – the first American property from Maybourne Hotel Group. Guests will enjoy the traditional British teatime ritual, but with playful twists in true Maybourne spirit, that will reflect the flavours of California and the vibrancy of the destination. Presented on the LA hotel’s sweeping outdoor garden terrace, guests will enjoy this alfresco service surrounded by a white jacketed team, a fragrant garden of wild flowers, accompanied by the sounds of a grand piano.

Although it doesn’t sound like a trend, we love the idea of being able to enjoy a real British Afternoon Tea in another place. Empire Steak House in New York will surprise their guests this holiday season with a unique dish, the 24 Karat Gold Turkey! A traditional dish with a fancy twist.

We’ve seen the gold wrap marketing stunt on a regularly basis, the food is always astronomical priced, but they’re also always picked up locally and internationally for some free publicity. Especially if there is also charity associated with it. Quite recently we saw the ‘Golden Boy‘ of ‘De Daltons’ in Voorthuizen in the Netherlands, who raised 5.000 euros. This amount has been donated to the local Food Bank. We also wrote about a marketing stunt by Bubbledogs in London who gave away 100 golden hot dogs as a Christmas present, and whoever got one also got a small bottle of champagne. Last summer Chipotle packed their burritos in gold foil every time the USA won a golden medal at the summer Olympic Games.

Claridge’s Christmas Tree 2019, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is accompanied by The Loubi Express, a glittering red train stationed in the snowy forest clearing of the lobby, with a plethora of wrapped gifts atop the train, making their way from Paris to London to spread festive cheer.

Inspiration from 2018 – a very Instagrammable cookie cup! Based on the American dessert ‘Milk & Cookies’ but the other way around. We didn’t spot those cookies cups in the Netherlands yet.

Located at the Union Market Tustin in Los Angeles, The Dirty Cookie, a unique cookie shot glass concept. They sell all kind of flavours in Cookie shots that are made in-house. We even read at FoodBeast that they make purple Ube Cookie Shots and Matcha Green Tea Cookie Shots. The basic remains the same, instead of dipping your cookie in milk, coffee or any other liquid at The Dirty Cookie the liquid gets poured in the cookie.

Tamnan Tea was founded by Penpak Boonla, an entrepreneur from Rotterdam and Stephan van IJperen. Their tea journey started  2 years ago. On one of their many trips to Thailand we met great and good-hearted people. Among them farmers who just want to have a normal, happy, simple life, but cannot market their beautiful and healthy products,  because of a gap in knowledge, network, support and market access. They market ‘Fresh Blue’, a lemongrass tea with a hint of ginger and handpicked blue pea flowers, which makes this tea a great refreshment. ‘Calm Green’, a loose kaffir lime tea that has a slightly bitter taste.
