Kever Genever launches Kever 0.0% | What do you drink if you do not want to drink?

In 2016 we posted an article about Kever genever, the Amsterdam jenever (Dutch gin) brand. The brand wants to become the most innovative ‘jenever’ brand in the Netherlands. A first step in that direction is the introduction of the Kever 0.0% , ‘jenever’ without alcohol and therefore in line with the trend of conscious alcohol consumption. On May 10 2019, Kever started a crowdfunding campaign on the CrowdAboutNow platform. With this campaign they want to raise a minimum of € 100,000 up to a maximum of € 200,000 in order to be able to realize Kever 0.0%, but also to launch other high-profile Kever Genevers within 3 years. Meanwhile, 120% of their goal has been achieved and the crowdfunding still has 35 days to go!

Kever 0.0% is the very first ‘jenever or gin style’ 0.0%. The product has the characteristic light-grained and juniper flavors of quality jenever. Furthermore they use distillates such as pines, citrus and finally red pepper for a tingling kick. The grain alcohol has been replaced for distilled water. Kever 0.0% can be mixed with tonic and a slice of grapefruit. Kever 0.0%  is the answer to the question: what to drink if you don’t want to drink? The product will launch in June.

More mocktails, less hangovers

The growth and attention for these low or non-alcoholic alternatives has increased enormously the last two years. As example, the hype ‘Dry January’ and market researcher Nielsen shows that 1 in 4 adults indicate that they want to reduce alcohol consumption. Below 18 to 24 year olds this is even 1 in 3. It is not surprising that, for example, the 0.0% beer segment grows by 30% a year. The local supply in 0.0% spirits is still limited, and Kever 0.0% is using this opportunity. Kever Genever has the ambition to be part of the national and international ‘jenever’ market. Kever therefore comes with an innovative product for every drinking moment: the cocktail, the ‘kopstootje’ (head butt), 0.0 moment and so on.

About Kever Genever

Kever Genever is an Amsterdam Jenever brand that was founded in 2015 by four friends, they met each other during their studies in Sweden: Ruben Wolvekamp (27), Sebastian Kolstee (29), Leonard Crijns (30) and Benedict Frauen (27). With the products of Kever Genever they focus on people in their twenties and thirties looking for products with an identity and local origin. Their products create an experience and are focused on quality rather than quantity.

According to founder Ruben Wolvekamp, the first two products from Kever are: “innovative, full of taste and especially very accessible. We also want to show that this drink is incredibly diverse in taste and applicability.” For example, this summer Kever introduced the so-called ‘Kopstoot Genever’: a jenever with pineapple and hops, specially developed to drink with an IPA or a Weizen. Co-founder Sebastian Kolstee: “Our Kopstoot Genever is that little treat next to a beer. For that drinking moment when your weekend starts. A kopstoot (Head butt) 2.0.” Where the kopstootje gives the opportunity to  ‘take away the sharp edges of the week’, the men behind Kever Genever saw the rising demand for low and non-alcoholic alternatives.
