Marjolein van Spronsen blogs about our New Year’s resolutions, which we are already releasing based on experience figures. Yet as a restaurant or catering you can respond to this fact and help your guests and potential guests to keep their resolutions. With examples of Saladworks “Our New Year’s ResoYOUtion”, the limited edition BitesWeLove x The Duchess box, resolution inspired LTOs, Dry January and Veganuary!

Examples of responding to the New Year’s resolutions of your guests

En masse we and our bodies were ready to consume less after December, whether it concerns less drinking, less meat, less food, more exercise or a combination of these. We’ve read a couple of articles from companies that respond to this, such as the “Our New Year’s ResoYOUtion” of the American chain Saladworks. This program allows their guests, through their Rewards system, to focus on four main goals: ‘Healthier YOU’, “New YOUtines”, “Fitter YOU” and “Stressless YOU”. Interested parties can easily register as a Saladworks Rewards member via their website or app.

Dry January, Veganuary, LTOs

There are also more and more organizations that try to encourage people in a positive way to opt for a vegetarian meal more often. Such as the English initiative Veganuary, which this month organizes all kinds of actions online and offline. One of the founders of Veganuary has now also started his own Vegan Fried Chick*n brand, with the great slogan: “Thanks colonel, we’ll take it from here”. 😉 Here in the Netherlands we have the National Week Without Meat’, which this year takes place from 8 to 14 March. In the past I always had the perception, and I think many with me, that I would miss out on something special when I opted for a vegetarian menu, but nowadays top chefs have really delicious vegetarian dishes on the menu. As a result, nowadays my table companions always have the feeling that they are missing out on something special.

I already wrote that it is useful to have healthy, vegetarian option on your delivery and take-away menu. in the article about the limited edition biteswelove x the Duchess box, a snack/drink box that is only available in January giving those living in Antwerp the possibility of ‘healthy snacking’. In America, several fast casual concepts initiated limited time offerings (LTOs) in January to help their guests keep up with their New Year’s resolutions. For example, Yogurtland has introduced a plant-based Pineapple & Greens Smoothie Bowl to ensure that there is more variety for those who want to eat vegan for a month. El Pollo Loco in California has their “better-for-you Pollo Fit Bowls” on the menu this month. These Fit Bowls are made with organic ingredients and low carb options. Barberitos, a fast-casual Southwestern Grille and Cantina with 50 locations in the Southeastern American region, has a lifestyle menu that offers their guests healthier options during the first month of 2021.

So restaurants, in the coming weeks offer healthier, vegetarian or possibly vegan dishes on your delivery or take-out menu and some more non-alcoholic options in your drinks!
