A chips or crisps restaurant, Hipchips London opened in November. Situated on Old Compton Street in Soho, the crisp restaurant sells their fresh chips from a conveyor belt topped with heritage potato slices and fancy dips.

The only thing they’re selling from their conveyor belt is piles of multi-coloured crisps and a choice of 6 dips. A pile of multi-coloured crisps and two dips costs £4.50. A box of crisps and six dips is £11.50. In all the reviews we have read it says the dips are spectacular. Hipchips sells crisps made of seasonal potatoes, like the Highland Burgundy, Red Emmalie, Salad Blue and Shetland Black. They’re colourful and crispy served with sweet and/or savoury dips. Your chips will be seasoned with either sugar and cinnamon or salt.

Examples of their savoury dips; smoky cheese fondue (with pickled red onions), baba ganoush (with aubergines, lemon, garlic and yoghurt), veggie ceviche (with chilli and coriander), beetroot and lemongrass marmalade. The sweet dips: campfire s’mores, chocolate praline mousse and  lemon tart & raspberries. As we read in different reviews the chef might think about starting to sell some of the dips in tubes like restaurant ‘Mossel & Gin’ in Amsterdam did with their Gin Mayo. The actual shop must be pretty small and there isn’t much room to ‘crisps dine in’ as far as you can speak of dining in.

It might be a great idea to start a chips bar on your terrace this summer, another example are the dorilocos or crazy Doritos we wrote about last year. We think it could well be a hit at your terrace.
