In the heart of Utrecht on the Bakkerstraat 7, Désirée Stroes and Brian Steevens opened their Croquetten Boutique last November. The enthusiastic entrepreneurs sell croquettes in all shapes and sizes at this location. How about the following croquettes: ‘Pumpkin & Sage’, ‘Apple & Cinnamon’, ‘Mushroom & Parsnip’ or ‘Chicken & Red Curry’. You can also order a tasting of 6 small croquettes. Of course, they also have the original croquette on the menu, handmade and fresh! For the Holiday Season they have a special ‘Hazenpeper’ Croquet (with kind of Hare Stew). Inspiration for those selling pancakes or better the French version: crêpes. Comcrepe in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo created crème brûlée in a crêpe cone. Great idea for a Christmas dessert.

The Loop | Instagrammable ‘horchata and churros’

The Loop does sell churros in Westminster, California. They have an Instragram hit with their special horchata with a loop of churros.  A horchata is a Spanish drink from the Valencia region, made of almonds, water and sugar, which creates a milk like substance. At ‘the Loop’ they added activated charcoal which creates a social media-friendly or instagrammable ‘horchata and churros’.   lees verder

The Greyston Bakery | With Open Hiring™ model will be coming to Amsterdam

Since 1982, when Zen Buddhist monk Bernie Glassman started the Greyston bakery in New York State, the company is a role model for companies who want to mean more for society. Greyston has an open hiring policy (Open Hiring ™), which is the most radical form of anonymous job application in the world. Since 1995 their products have been delivered to, among others, Ben & Jerry’s, the famous ice cream brand. At the end of last week, Greyston announced that they will open a branch in Amsterdam and introduce their thoughts and methods in the Netherlands. Social Investor Start Foundation has committed $ 500,000 to start the first preparations. lees verder

On the 19th of October the Sign Language Coffee Bar opens its doors at the Amsteldijk in Amsterdam. It is the first Dutch coffee bar where only deaf barista’s work and where you have to place your order in sign language.

McVegan | McDonald’s in Finland sells limited edition vegan burger

Five outlets of McDonald’s in Tampere, Finland have announced it’s trialing a new item on their menu – a vegan burger. They started selling the McVegan early October and it will be available until November 21. The McVegan has become an instant hit on the social media, with a lot of vegans asking McDonalds in their own region to trial this burger as well. The fans even urge McDonald’s to make it an item on the international menu. lees verder
