Soon FG Okonomiyaki Bar will be opened in the Japanese style Denoism store, at the Katshoek 19 in Rotterdam (Hofbogen). They are going to serve Okonomiyaki, which means free translated ‘baked or grilled as you like it’. Unlike the Dutch pancake, the okonomiyaki isn’t based on milk but on seaweed stock. You can fill the pancake with a choice of toppings such as cod, pork belly, tuna, homemade ketchup and bonito flakes. For 5 euros each, you can take away a mini-ekonomiyaki’s. lees verder

Edible cutlery | Sustainable solution for plastic cutlery

On the Facebook page of Futurism Food we spotted a video of an ‘edible spoon’ that is sold in India. You can buy it in a sweet, savoury and neutral taste. We wrote about similar products in 2010 and 2013, but it seems that the edible spoon is going mainstream now. The producer Bakeys is busy with a line of edible cutlery; chopsticks and forks are already created.

Why won’t we start using this edible cutlery outside India as well? As replacement of all the plastic cutlery in the fast food industry? The only problem is that they haven’t created a knife model yet but hey, plastic knives are a drama as well… lees verder

The meeting ‘from food waste to food business’ was organised to prevent waste and make use of residual flows. Visitors of the Zwarte Cross festival in the Netherlands can make a pit stop at ‘t Noorden in Aalten. The festival will start this weekend and party centre and pancake house ‘t Noorden is located on the route towards the festival. To attract more visitors in the days before the festivals, they decided to put some extra items on their menu. One of them is Nozem Ice Cream, made in collaboration with a farm where ice cream is being made. The ice cream is based on a popular drink being sold at Zwarte Cross: Nozem Oil. lees verder

We just launched a Dutch Whitepaper about the Wellness industry in the Netherlands and one of the international trends we spotted is the healthy cuisine. Wellness is about feeling healthy ‘from body to mind’. One of the features of a healthy lifestyle is a cuisine with more focus on ‘foods with a function’. Like turmeric, a power food that’s often used in the Ayurvedic cuisine. In the wellbeing approach they often use Ayurvedic treatments.
