Opening in Antwerp – Camille and Boqion from Camion opened their second branch – plant-based fine dining Camionette – on the PAKT site on Friday 1 July. What initially began in 2019 as a plant-based lunch and aperitif business soon turned into a full-blown restaurant. They soon came up against the limits of their small premises, especially the very small kitchen, so after three years it is time to move to a place where they can once again expand their culinary ambitions. From now on, Camion will continue as a low key breakfast and lunch bar, while at Camionette you can go in the afternoon as well as in the evening for all sorts of sharing dishes or a nice glass of natural wine at the bar.

Camion, only the good stuff

The name Camion is a fusion of Camille & Boqion. Two friends who met about ten years ago in the catering industry. With their shared interest in food and hospitality, they were soon to be found everywhere as a duo and then to start brainstorming their own concept.  After a year of travelling, both together and separately, they started making concrete plans to start a business together. After a lot of good food & drink and thorough market research worldwide, they decided to create a lunch, natural wine and extensive apero formula. Not much later, in February 2019, Camion was a fact.

Stacking to the ceiling

Although they are convinced that their small first location was the perfect learning experience, the ladies are ready to embark on a new and larger adventure together with their team. They have become experts at stacking to the ceiling and know better than anyone how good preparation goes hand in hand with a smooth operation. However, in the new Camionette kitchen, which is as big as Camion in its entirety, they want to push the boundaries again and work with new techniques. They are eager to take on the challenge of convincing even more people of the versatility of plant-based fine dining cuisine and see it as their mission to put this cuisine on the map like never before in and around Antwerp.

Camionette, plant-based fine dining in Antwerp

At Camionette you will be immersed in plant-based fine dining in an elegant, creative and funky way. Both at lunchtime and in the evening you can taste and share a series of refined dishes. The passionate young chefs work with fresh, organic, local products to create a challenging and varied menu. At Camionette they break with the idea that only traditional dining can be classified as fine dining. The team guides you into their story with enthusiasm and encourages customers to enjoy themselves.

Only fair and honest products are used at Camionette

As in the kitchen, they also work in the wine bar with almost exclusively natural, organic and seasonal products. For them, natural wine is the only way to go and so they serve a great selection which they support 100%. The cocktails and non-alcoholic offerings get the same attention. In the wine bar you can enjoy a drink and a limited menu with bar food.

Industrial and urban modern

For the interior of Camionette, they hired interior architect and creative designer Sophie Peelman. She elaborated on Camille and Boqion’s wild ideas and so this renewed urban modern interior became a mix of industrial elements, combined with organic materials. You will find furniture and deco items from different Belgian companies like Omar City, D&M deco, Orbit lighting, Flooat Boards, Atelier Sam Ponette and Woutbewerking.

Plant-based fine dining Camionette in the right place on the PAKT site

Six years ago, the then still searching girls were already lamenting the fact that every space on the PAKT site had already found an entrepreneur. So now, when the opportunity arose to take up the baton from Kasserol, they made every effort to convince the former tenants and owners of the site of their potential to contribute to this ecosystem in the middle of the city. With the Volle Grond being one of their main suppliers, it feels to them as if the pieces of the puzzle are now really falling into place. Even the enthusiasts who already know this biotope in the heart of Antwerp agree that these sustainable entrepreneurs will certainly be an added value here.
