You drink Iced Beer with a straw!

10-5-2016

We can’t ignore this new drink: the makers of the beer slush received a lot of attention in the Dutch media today. Both on radio, television and Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. The Twentse Bierbrouwerij (Brewery) in the city of Hengelo, makes Iced Beer in the flavours Radler and Rosé beer. This is a beer that you drink with a straw!

Iced Beer

Brewer Frank Hendriks of the Twentse Bierbrouwerij in Hengelo explains in the introduction on the website of RTV Oost that his refreshing Iced Beer is going to conquer the Netherlands as the new summer drink of 2016. The beer is made of Radler and Rosé beer and only five percent consists of ice cubes.

The Iced Beer is tapped from a slush ice machine and drunk through a straw. The beer is an idea of Roel Nijhof and the brewer about which he says: “The specialty beer is the basis, I wanted to remain  the pure taste of beer. In order to get that done, I had to keep the carbon dioxide, with a secret ingredient I managed to succeed. Hence the foam in this drink!”

New summer drink?

I have to say I’m curious to taste the slush beer! I have once experimented with ice made of beer but we thought it tasted like beer without the sparkle, not successful! While everybody loved my mojito ice and scroppino, meaning the alcohol wasn’t the problem. From the story of brewer Frank Hendriks I understand now that it’s probably the lack of carbon dioxide that does something weird with the taste. In Japan, the “beer slush” is already a few years popular but I doubt that you can get a beer of slush from Radler beer or rosé beer! ^ Marjolein

Our colleague Bram, originated from Hengelo, will soon be tasting Iced Beer at Cafe ‘t Pleintje.
