At Horecatrends we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, amongst others about the Michelin stars for 2018 in Belgium, Spain and Portugal. And restaurant The Avocado Show in Amsterdam has opened the first pop-up avocado shop in the world.

They announced the Michelin stars in Belgium and Luxumbourg

The MICHELIN Guide Belgium and Luxembourg 2018 is on sale from November 23rd. In this 62nd edition you will find 1416 addresses, namely 328 hotels (including 86 guest rooms) and 1088 restaurants, including 144 restaurants with Michelin stars. Two 3-star restaurants, Hof van Cleve of Peter Goossens in Kruishoutem and Hertog Jan of chef Gert de Mangeleer in Zedelgem. In the coming year, Belgium will have 23 restaurants with 2 Michelin stars, 3 of which are new. In addition, they have 119 restaurants with 1 Michelin star, of which 14 are new. Belgium has 181 Bib Gourmand restaurants (24 new).

The Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal has been announced as well

With the big news that Spain is boasting  two new restaurants with three Michelin stars: Aponiente of chef Angel Léon in Cadiz and restaurant ABaC of chef Jordi Cruz in Barcelona. There were lots of new Michelin stars in Spain with a total of five restaurants receiving their second star and 17 new restaurants with one star. In Portugal two new restaurants received their first star: Gusto and the Vista Restaurant. Spain now has a total of 11 three-starred Michelin restaurants: Akelarre, Arzak, Azurmendi, DiverXO, El Celler de Can Roca, Lasarte, Martin Berasategui en Guipúzcoa, Quique Dacosta, Sant Pau.

Amsterdam opens the world’s first avocado shop amid month-long superfood celebration

As avocados continue to take Europe by storm, The World Avocado Organization (WAO) has created a campaign to celebrate its consumer brand “Avocado – The Fruit of Life”. In collaboration with the Amsterdam-based specialty restaurant, The Avocado Show, WAO has designated this month as “Avocado Month” to mark the off-the-charts popularity of the nutrient-dense fruit. Throughout November a range of avocado-inspired activities and events are taking place, including the first-ever Amsterdam avocado tram (#AvoTram), followed by the opening of the world’s first avocado shop located in De Pijp.
