At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, among other a link to an article about Blend 32 Kitchen & Bar in the Hilton Groenplaats in Antwerp, Belgium. And we spotted the Ben Nevis beer by the Northern Monk Brewery, priced at £1,000 for 330ml!

Accor, the world-leading hospitality group and the Alibaba Group recently announced a strategic collaboration to develop a series of digital applications and loyalty programs to improve the consumer and traveller experience over the next five years. And did you ever taste green caviar?

Blend 32 Kitchen & Bar opens in the Hilton Antwerp Old Town

The Hilton hotel chain will soon open the doors of their own restaurant, Blend 32 Kitchen & Bar, at the iconic Hilton Antwerp Old Town. The bar will play a prominent role in this, with refined bar food with Japanese influences and a strong cocktail menu. In addition, you can still visit the restaurant for some of their delicious classics. With local products of the very best quality, Blend 32 Kitchen & Bar is aiming for a new experience where refinement is paramount.

Is this the most expensive beer worldwide?

Named after the summit of the UK’s highest peak where it was made, Northern Monk believes its new beer, Ben Nevis, is the highest altitude brew in British history. The 11% ABV Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is made from ingredients foraged from the mountain itself by four of the brewery’s staff, including blaeberries (also known as bilberries) and ‘Dew of Ben Nevis’ water, used in the production of Ben Nevis whisky. the brew spent 2 months ageing in a whisky barrel donated by the Ben Nevis Whisky Distillery in Fort William. Accor and Alibaba Group Enter into Strategic Partnership

Accor, the world-leading hospitality group and Alibaba Group, the world’s largest retail commerce business, recently (November 7) announced a strategic collaboration to develop a series of digital applications and loyalty programs to improve the consumer and traveller experience over the next five years. The announcement was made at a special ceremony in Beijing during the 2019 China International Import Expo. Accor was among the delegation of French companies accompanying President Emmanuel Macron on a state visit to China.

Barcelona-based on-demand delivery app Glovo launches in Poland

Barcelona-based Glovo, one of the world’s fastest-growing on-demand delivery players, has announced today that it has acquired Poland’s largest food delivery platform, Pizza Portal. AmRest Holdings SE, the leading multi-brand franchise restaurant operator in Europe signed the agreement with Glovo, which envisages the sale of its 100% stake in restaurant partner Polska Sp. z o.o., the owner of food ordering platform PizzaPortal. The deal is valued at €30 million, plus a €5 million earn-out.

What will restaurants look like in 2030?

Restaurant industry sales are expected to reach $1.2 trillion by the end of the next decade, according to the “Restaurant Industry 2030: Actionable Insights for the Future” report released Tuesday by the National Restaurant Association. The “Restaurant Industry 2030” report, on which the association partnered with American Express and Nestlé Professional, examined the key indicators shaping the future of the industry. Rebel Whopper | The veggie burger of Burger King

Burger King starts offering the veggie ‘Rebel Whopper’ across Europe. Burger King started offering its meat-free Rebel Whopper across Europe on Tuesday, November 12 in one of the largest product launches in its history and the first big restaurant deal for Unilever’s plant-based patty. The Rebel Whopper features a patty made by The Vegetarian Butcher, a manufacturer of faux meat products based in the Netherlands bought by Unilever at the end of 2018.

Compostable alternative for the plastic 6-pack rings of Heineken

Heineken joins mayor beer companies with ditching the plastic 6-pack rings. Heineken UK is eliminating plastic rings and plastic shrink wrap from its entire line of beer and cider sold in multi-pack cans, including Foster’s, and Kronenbourg, removing 517 tons of plastic annually from the supply chain—which is the equivalent of about 94 million plastic bags a year.

Deliveroo launched food orders for pickup

The U.K.-based on-demand food delivery service has expanded into not actually delivering orders by offering users a pickup option, called ‘Pickup’, as an alternative to paying a delivery fee and waiting for lunch to arrive. The new ‘click & collection’-service is live for 700+ eateries in 13 U.K. cities.   Deliveroo says it expects the pickup service to grow rapidly, reckoning more than 10,000 restaurants will be offering it within the next 12 months and doing so across the 200 U.K. towns and cities in which it currently operates. Deliveroo says it will be launching the collection option in Hong Kong, Australia, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain this year. More info at the website of TechCrunch.

Eataly NYC Flatiron opens Serra Alpina | A winter-themed rooftop restaurant

SERRA by Birreria is a seasonal rooftop restaurant located on the 14th floor of Eataly NYC Flatiron. Meaning ‘greenhouse’ in Italian, SERRA changes with the seasons, always offering a fun, themed atmosphere and a rustic menu reflective of the Italian countryside. NHOW Amsterdam welcomes important first guests

Nhow Amsterdam RAI will open its doors in the first quarter of 2020. This controversial hotel is located next to RAI Amsterdam and has 650 rooms, making it the largest new hotel in the Benelux. This asks for hospitality talents who will make an essential contribution to the guest stay.
