What McDonald’s learned from Berlin’s plastic-free experiment

McDonald’s needs to comply with upcoming regulations (a ban on many single-use plastic items in the European Union is taking effect in 2021). Besides they want their customers to know they care about the environment. In June, McDonald’s opened the Better McDonald’s Store – a nearly plastic-free restaurant in Berlin for 10 days. They went all in with edible waffle cups replaced condiment sachets and containers. Paper straws replaced plastic straws. Wooden cutlery replaced plastic cutlery. Sandwiches were wrapped in packaging made from grass, not paper. And Chicken McNuggets were served in paper bags, rather than cardboard boxes. Read in the link in the title what McDonald’s learned from this experiment!

Burger King and McDonalds phase out plastic toys in UK green push

Free toys with kids meals at fast food chains have been commonplace around the world for decades — but the practice is coming to an end amid pressure from campaigners. Fast food giants Burger King and McDonalds (MCD) have announced plans to reduce plastic toys as part of efforts to cut environmentally damaging waste. Burger King is removing all plastic toys from its UK children’s meals. Read more at the link in the title.

The PizzaRitto by Russo’s House of Pizza

Put all Italian stuff you know, including pasta, on a thin pizza crust and roll it. Slice it like a burrito and you can eat it! Created by Russo’s House of Pizza, located in Pearl river, New York! Sounds like real American food to us! But the PizzaRitto is definitely one to share with many friends! At Russo’s House of Pizza they also serve a ‘pasta boat’, check out the video by ‘Thrillist food and drink’ linked in the title.

SeaBubbles could soon become an alternative to cars in big cities

In Paris a futuristic taxi car is hovering the Seine, this taxi is fully electric and ‘flies’ 50 cm above the water. No carbon-emission and no noise! This taxi called SeaBubbles, can take up to 5 persons. They’re also creating ‘Bubble Buses’ at this moment which could take up to 30 persons. Check out the video, linked in the title, by Brut Nature.

Co-creation around an ingredient |  One-off truffle dinner at restaurant Orrery

On Friday 18th October, Orrery, the French restaurant in the heart of Marylebone, will see its Chef Patron of eleven years Igor Tymchyshyn welcome award-winning Francesco Mazzei, Chef Patron of Italian restaurants Sartoria, Radici and Fiume into the kitchen for one night only, to create a menu championing truffle. Chef Igor says, “This time of year is a favourite of mine: autumn and winter produce takes on a rich, earthy flavour that perfectly matches with truffle’s strong flavours. At Orrery, we pay tribute to the classical cooking of France, so I’m thrilled to be welcoming Francesco to my kitchen to add his Italian influence and celebrate truffle together.” Reservations can be made via orreryreservations@danddlondon.com.

Another co-creation around an ingredient | Champagne Friends, London’s best sommeliers take over Bubbledogs for one night only

This October, bubbledogs, the Champagne bar in Fitzrovia by award-winning sommelier Sandia Chang, will be kicking off its new chapter since its revamp with the launch of Champagne Friends, a collaboration series that will see Sandia’s favourite wine bars and closest friends from the wine world put their stamp on bubbledogs’ celebrated Champagne list. Some of the capital’s most popular wine bars such as P. Franco, Newcomer Wines and Sager + Wilde will be taking over with an exclusive menu of Champagne and sparkling wines for one evening only. More about the Tuesday Late Night Pours can be found here.
