Jubilee celebrations at Claridge’s | The Royal Archive Cabinet in the lobby

To commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Claridge’s will be celebrating in its own unique and legendary style. Union Jack flags will proudly fly over Brook Street, delicious cocktails inspired by the coronation will be shaken and poured, and for the first time, royal treasures from the Claridge’s archive will be unveiled.

The hotel has a long history of hosting royalty, so much so that it has often been referred to as the ‘Annex of Buckingham Palace’. Her Majesty The Queen has often frequented the Mayfair institution from visiting fashion shows in the 1950s to hosting a private family dinner to celebrate her 60th birthday – it is the place The Queen has chosen to celebrate many important personal and public moments throughout her reign. Curated by Claridge’s in-house archivist Kate Hudson, the Royal Archive Cabinet will showcase rare and precious items from the 1953 Coronation and more, which have never been seen before. Displayed in the hotel’s legendary lobby from June 1st, this special showcase features mementos from an original swatch of the hand stitched and beaded fabric from the Queen’s coronation gown plus hand written annotations of the motif by designer Norman Hartnell, to original menus and cocktail cards served at Claridge’s on Coronation Day 1953. Original photographs from the procession and Her Majesty’s visits to Claridge’s add some final flourishes.
