At horecatrends.com we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the other trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

On Saturday May 20 all Fat Phill’s restaurants in the Netherlands are handing out 50 Double Cheeseburgers for free at each location, this in honor of their 4-year anniversary. And B&B De Bijenberg in Dedemsvaart in Overijssel was recently voted Best Bed & Breakfast of the Netherlands 2023.

WONDR Experience in Amsterdam will open the doors of its pop-up beach bar, Pink Beach, for its third and final season on May 24. Enjoy the Pink Beach Bottomless Brunch until the end of September.  

Hotel Tru by Hilton Baltimore Harbor East is hosting an ‘unblocking party, called Unblock the Block‘ party to celebrate the hotel’s return to easy access after roadworks. Great example? We love the name.

Ben from Ben & Jerry’s is swapping ice cream for cannabis – his latest company Ben’s Best Blnz or B3 is a bright, bold cannabis brand offering low-THC pre-rolls and vapes.

Free Heri Heri unites the Netherlands to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the abolition of trans-Atlantic slavery

On July 1st, the Netherlands will commemorate the ‘real’ abolition of trans-Atlantic slavery in July 1873 with Keti Koti. For the fourth time, KIP Republic will organize Free Heri Heri For All on this day, an initiative to unite citizens and make the commemoration of the abolition of trans-Atlantic slavery inclusive and accessible. People across the country can eat the Surinamese dish heri heri together for free in 70 locations, creating opportunities for dialogue and exchange about the significance of the day and history.

De Bijenberg named ‘Best Bed & Breakfast in the Netherlands 2023’

B&B De Bijenberg in Dedemsvaart, Overijssel, was named Best Bed & Breakfast in the Netherlands for 2023 on Wednesday. The accommodation performed well this year in the Dutch classification system for B&Bs, partly due to its luxurious facilities and wellness amenities. Additionally, the B&B was rewarded with a 9.7 rating by guests on Bedandbreakfast.nl, which contributed to its win.

WONDR ends final season of Pink Beach with a Bottomless Brunch

WONDR Experience in Amsterdam is opening the doors to its pop-up beach bar, Pink Beach, for its third and final season starting May 24th. The experience has been enhanced with the addition of an American brunch concept, Pink Beach Bottomless Brunch, which will be available until the end of September. Guests can indulge in unlimited brunch classics and drinks such as mimosas and bloody marys, while enjoying the retro-Californian atmosphere designed by Spanish interior designer Patricia Bustos.

Unlock the Block | Baltimore’s Tru by Hilton hosted unblocking party during National Tourism Week

Tru by Hilton Baltimore Harbor East hosted a ‘Unblock the Block’ party to celebrate the re-opening of Central Avenue during the National Tourism Week. Great way to celebrate being accessible again, an unblock the block party. It was held on May 13, 2023 from 12 p.m. till 4 p.m. with local food trucks, a DJ, games, giveaways, specials from local businesses and more. More details in their press release, link in the title. Inspiration for hotels on other blocks or communities that have been ‘blocked’?

Ben of Ben & Jerry’s trades ice cream for cannabis

The just-launched company Ben’s Best Blnz or B3 is a bright, bold cannabis brand that offers low-THC pre-rolls and full-spectrum vapes. Much like his endeavors in ice cream, Cohen set out to use B3’s platform as a conduit for what he refers to as “social benefit.” More details in the article at Fast Company, link in the title.

Dry-aged cod at Atelier Crenn

Recently our colleague Marjolein wrote a blog about dry-aged fish. We came across another example: the dryager at Atelier Crenn. They serve cod that has been dry-aged for 6 days together with bao buns, kimchi, sesame and lemon. Sounds delicious! Check out their Instagram reel below, their website is linked in the title.

This looks so delicious | Making Instagram posts doesn’t have to be difficult

We recently spoke to an entrepreneur who couldn’t imagine people waiting for photos or videos of his dishes. For those of you who sometimes wonder the same, below is a cool way to visualise, for example, a simple dessert like an affogato.
