The Hague can compete with world-famous seaside cities like San Francisco, Melbourne and Lisbon this summer. In June ‘The Tourist Tram’ starts, a new connection between the city and the sea with historic trams. Tourists with a ticket can hop on and hop off for one or more days. The Hague offers – for Dutch standards – an unique attraction.

Tourist Tram

The Tourist Tram is the result of a competition organised by the municipality. Entrepreneurs came up with ideas for a tourist hop-on hop-off connection. The Hague Public Transport Museum is selected by the municipality to take care of this new connection.

Typically The Hague

The Tourist Tram is a typical tram from The Hague; cream coloured with a green trim, as they used to be driving around in the city. The route connects the historic center, the future museum district around Lange Voorhout, the Peace Palace and the Kurhaus and drives back through the international zone and past the Omniverse. In 2016 The Tourist Tram drives during the summer throughout the week, and apart from the summer period the tram drives on weekends and public holidays, every half hour between 09:30 and 17:30. A day ticket for unlimited entry and exit will cost 14 euros, a two-day ticket 18 euros. Children under 12 years can join for 5 euros for two days.

Councillor Karsten Klein (Economic Affairs), “The Hague attracts more tourists every year which makes The Hague a city with a tourist caliber. Therefore the city needs a good hop-on hop-off connection. But they want to make a typical ‘haagse’ connection between the city centre of the city and the beach, so that makes the historical tram unique. The historical tram offers an audio tour which is not only available in several different languages but also in the dialect of The Hague.”

Menno Yap of the Hague Public Transport Museum: “We have got a warehouse full of wonderful material, but the best part will of course be to see a real tram driving around the city. The Tourist Tram ensures that inhabitants and visitors to enjoy the city. and on special occasions such as Budget Day and Kingsday we can possibly use other special trams! “
