Within a couple of days there will be a lot of stirring and shaking during the eleventh edition of the BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition. The competition challenges bartenders from all over the world to design an original BACARDÍ rum cocktail with no more than 6 ingredients. The competition will be held in Amsterdam this year, with the final on Tuesday 14 May. These Olympic games for bartenders will start on Saturday 11 May with an introduction and workshops.

The semi-finals and the Grand Finale can be followed live via the BACARDÍ LEGACY Facebook page.

First ‘jeu de boules’-food hall ‘Mooie Boules’ opens in Rotterdam | The Dutch love to play the game

In June, the very first covered ‘jeu de boules’ bar in Rotterdam North opens its doors: ‘Mooie Boules’ (Beautiful Boules). The old, characteristic metal factory in the upcoming ZOHO quarter in Rotterdam will be transformed into a French village square. Local restaurants (the names of which are not yet disclosed), will serve their signature dishes and at the bar a wide range of wine, specialty and local beers will be available. All this in combination with a game of ‘jeu de boules’. The location in Rotterdam opens on Vijverhofstraat 45 in Rotterdam-North in June. It seems like the Dutch love to play the famous French game!

From the 23th till the 26th of May, two different teams of chefs will exchange from both restaurant and life. Restaurant Locavore (Ubud, Bali) and RIJKS (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) rise to the challenge of participating in the largest cross-border chef event. Disaronno Day at ‘Flying Dutchman Cocktails’ | A 24-hour bar shift relay from Auckland to Los Angeles

Another good example of the “marketing”-days that are celebrated in the USA. They celebrate Amaretto Day on the 19th of April and Disaronno created their own day, and they celebrate Disaronno Day all over the world! The iconic liqueur is then the centerpiece of ‘The Longest Shift’, a 24-hour bar shift relay that starts in Auckland in Australia and ends in Los Angeles. Disaronno has asked top bartenders from all over the world to put together a creative cocktail menu especially for this day with Disaronno as one of the ingredients. The Netherlands is also part of this bar shift: top bartender Tess Posthumus will serve three signature cocktails to her guests in cocktail bar ‘Flying Dutchmen Cocktails’ in Amsterdam. read more

EARTH Water | 33cl cardboard packaging now 100% reusable

EARTH Water, the fairest water producer in the Netherlands, is taking a pioneering step in the sustainability of product packaging. By adding the new plant-based cap, the packaging material of the 33cl cardboard packaging is now 100% reusable. According to founder Henk Witteveen, this new bottle is the replacement for all plastic bottles. He says: “Twelve years ago, EARTH was the first producer to use cardboard as packaging material for mineral water. Now we are continuing the same innovative line with this plant-based cap in collaboration with Tetra Pak. We already received a huge number of requests from many catering associations for an alternative to the plastic bottle.” read more

The grey cobblestone streets and stately canal houses of Amsterdam; they are far from the sandy beaches, palm trees and ferocious pirates we associate with rum. Nevertheless, it was under the Dutch rain where the Spirited Union Distillery and its Union55 rum were created. In 2015, Ruben Maduro found himself fed up with the sickly sweet and artificial flavors in his beloved (spiced) rums. “I travelled all over the world as a brand ambassador, bartender and trainer. And one thing struck me: The lack of innovation in rum.” One and a half year later, in early 2017, an experiment had evolved into an uncategorized rum. A botanically infused one.. read more

We know that there are stunning hotel suites all over the world, but this suite in Las Vegas beats a lot! This suite at the Palms Casino resorts is decorated by the artist Damien Hirst.  And a list of 10 great Escape Rooms from around the world with the rooms of ‘Sherlocked’ in Amsterdam on it!

We also spotted a Japanese Café that has robots as staff that are controlled by disabled people. And in the USA joins Pizza Hut forces with FedEx to explore the FedEx SameDay Bot for delivery.
