  • Pop up Grand Kobel in Vienna by restaurant Taubenkobel

Restaurant Taubenkobel, located on Lake Neusiedler in Austria, has an annual tradition of creating a pop-up in and around Vienna when it becomes quieter on the lake. In recent years they have held these pop ups in a train hangar (Lokvogel, 2018), in an old post office (Brieftaubenkobel, 2017) and this year the pop up takes place in an old ballroom in the former Donauhof Hotel in Vienna’s 2nd district. Restaurant & hotel Taubenkobel is a member of Relais & Chateaux and chef Alain Weissgerber has 18 out of 20 points in the Gault Millau of 2019.

From November 15 to December 21 you can enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in Vienna and enjoy culinary delights at pop up Grand Kobel. For hospitality entrepreneurs, it is a cool idea to visit your guests with a pop up at a special location. In our opinion, pop ups from chefs from outside the region in the west of the Netherlands would also do great in Amsterdam or Rotterdam!

  • New nhow hotel Hamburg - rendering of the bunker in St. Pauli

NH Hotel Group’s has plans to open a new nhow hotel built on ex Nazi bunker in the city of Hamburg in 2021 an it’s set to be one of Europe’s most emblematic hotels. nhow Hamburg joins the brand’s pipeline of seven establishments, with three of the planned new hotels – in London, Amsterdam and Brussels – due to open their doors in 2020.

The amazing bunker, right in the heart of the city, will extend over five storeys in the shape of a pyramid, which will house the hotel rooms. One of the project’s most eye-catching features is the landscaping plans: a spectacular roof-top garden, in all likelihood one of a kind in Germany. The hotel will enjoy fantastic panoramic views of Hamburg, in the line of sight of the Elbphilharmonie and a leafy and meandering green walkway that will surround the bunker.

Amber Garden, part of the international ‘Yisheng Group’, opened its doors in Amstelveen (near Amsterdam in the Netherlands) in a festive way on September 23th. Owner, Stark Li, third generation respected Chinese restaurant owner, together with Facility Manager, Ronald Ting, opened restaurant Amber Garden in the company of many corporate companies from the region, culinary enthusiasts and (Michelin) star chefs.

With the arrival of Amber Garden, the municipality of Amstelveen has added a beautiful, authentic fine dining Chinese restaurant at their list of restaurants. Lovers of the authentic Chinese cuisine can enjoy the ‘shared dining’ dishes here. During the opening we enjoyed dishes from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Xi’an. With the dishes you can enjoy wine pairing that are specially selected. For those who want to drink alcohol-free, they also serve delicious tea-based mocktails. True lovers of the Chinese cuisine must visit Amber Garden, if only for the delicious Dim Sum and their signature dish the ‘Amber roasted Beijing duck in the traditional way’. Like chef Shaun Song says: “You no longer need to go to China to be able to enjoy the best dishes China can offer”.

If you have missed the news: BUNK Hotels has recently opened the doors of its first location in the heart of Utrecht in an old church. BUNK Amsterdam will open soon, also in a former house of God.

We wrote earlier about this special hotel in the Westerkerk in Utrecht, and with the announcement of BUNK Amsterdam they have created a special promotional video for the concept. A big nod to Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel, that’s what you could call this artistic piece of cinematography from BUNK. And also an ode to the bird of paradise that lurks in everyone, as ultimately we all have our own original story. BUNK brings these stories together.

Inspiration from 2018 l The (arcade)games are back

6-8-2019

  • (arcade)games

These last few years we see them more and more often, arcade games in the hospitality and leisure industry. Pinball machines, air-hockey and pool tables, it’s all coming back. Cool concepts that focus on a specific game or sport and where eating and drinking does come in second.

The rise of ping-pong bars has been going on a while now. In all major Dutch cities there are now bars where people can enjoy a game of ping-pong with friends. The last few years also pétanque bars seem to have joined this movement (such as Mooie Boules in Amsterdam and Rotterdam), Airhockey concepts (Puck) and even some more “fancy” places (Flight Club Darts Londen).

Besides this, concepts like TonTon Club really try to take their guests back in time with games such as Mortal Kombat and Time Shooters to relive their childhood memories. On the other hand there are places that really focus on the younger generation and their needs. E-sport bars like Meltdown are places where you can both play e-sports and watch big live e-sport events.

In summary, it can be concluded that for the people who love games this movement is more than amazing!
