Restaurant À la Maison | An extension of the living room
Restaurant À la Maison is located on the site of the former Restaurant Markant and, after a thorough renovation, seats 28 guests. The interior evokes the atmosphere of a classic French bistro without being one: oxblood red as the main colour, classic table lamps, chandeliers, marble and wood accents, and soft chairs and banquettes. Outside, there is a small terrace for eight guests.
Classic French cuisine with a contemporary twist
Head chef Harm Dierks (31) has worked at several top restaurants. At Mijn Keuken in Wouw he progressed from apprentice to head chef, and he was sous chef at Restaurant Ralf Berendsen in Lanaken, Belgium. Ralf Berendsen recently earned 2 Michelin stars for his new restaurant Suis.
“We focus on craftsmanship, top-quality products and good sauces,” Harm says. “You won’t find any unnecessary frills on the plate. Less is more, but whatever we make, we execute down to the finest detail and prepare with love.”

À la carte and daily specials
The à la carte menu features classics such as steak tartare, lobster soup, veal sweetbread, scallops, sole baked on the bone, côte de bœuf and a dame blanche for dessert. In addition, there are daily specials inspired by the season, such as game in autumn and white asparagus in spring. With an aperitif, guests can enjoy refined bites, including oyster preparations and brioche with smoked eel. During the day, a two-course lunch menu is available for €35.
Coming home
Hostess and sommelier Fenna Monsieurs (27) previously worked at Vista Willemstad, Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen (as chef de rang and maître d’hôtel) and Ralf Berendsen (as maître sommelier). “We want our guests to experience top quality with the warm feeling of coming home,” she says. “You’re genuinely dining out, but in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. That personal approach and the relaxed, homely atmosphere make À la Maison very accessible.”

A versatile wine list
Fenna manages a list of more than 100 wines, mostly from Europe. The emphasis is on France, with houses such as Laurent Roumier and Jean-Claude Ramonet, complemented by Spain and Italy, with names such as Vega Sicilia and Gaja. Wines by the glass start at €5.50. A fifth of the list is priced under €60, but enthusiasts will also find gems such as Cristal Champagne from Louis Roederer, Château d’Yquem 1995 and Puligny-Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive. “You can already enjoy a quality wine from €30 a bottle, but connoisseurs can also find mature top vintages at a fair price.”
