In English they call it a caviar bump – in Dutch: ‘Slurping caviar’. According to House of Caviar & Fine Foods: the trend of this year. Our colleague Leonie van Spronsen wrote a blog about it in May this year, unfortunately in Dutch. In this blog, she also gave another delicious recipe that should be served on hand, a combination of pata negra and foie gras. Both products must be at the right temperature; fold a slice of the pata negra and place a cube of foie gras on it!

The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz launched this audio experience yesterday in Bad Ragaz. The five episodes of ‘Murder at the Grand Resort’ were produced in collaboration with the Winterthur-based company Podcast Schmiede and are based on the famous crime story ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ by Agatha Christie. The postcast is in the German language and is officially called “Mord im Grand Resort’, good to practice your German.😉

December 14, Starbucks started their search for five of the merriest homes in the U.S. – and the stories behind the people who bring cheer to their neighborhood during the holidays. This holiday season, Starbucks is teaming up with singer, songwriter and actress Christina Milian. From December 14 through Sunday, December 17, Starbucks invited everyone to share how their home’s holiday display brings cheer to their neighborhood. In America, Mac & Cheese is hugely popular and available with all kinds of ingredients, even with crab and lobster! Why this dish isn’t as popular here in Europe, we really don’t understand. Recently, we came across the Mac & Cheese Nibblers from White Castle, an American fast food chain. They are putting their beloved Sloppy Joe, Smoky Joe and Spicy Joe Sliders, along with the Mac & Cheese Nibblers, back on the menu during the winter months until February 4.
Their Nibblers look like our famous ‘bitterballen’ with a creamy content of macaroni and cheddar! We think a lot of Dutch people would love them as well!

Opening in Antwerp – Camille and Boqion from Camion opened their second branch – plant-based fine dining Camionette – on the PAKT site on Friday 1 July. What initially began in 2019 as a plant-based lunch and aperitif business soon turned into a full-blown restaurant. They soon came up against the limits of their small premises, especially the very small kitchen, so after three years it is time to move to a place where they can once again expand their culinary ambitions. From now on, Camion will continue as a low key breakfast and lunch bar, while at Camionette you can go in the afternoon as well as in the evening for all sorts of sharing dishes or a nice glass of natural wine at the bar.
On 16, 17 and 18 September, the Werkspoorhaven in Utrecht will be transformed into a true beer-walhalla during the Uncovered Festival. More than 15 different breweries will present the beers they are most proud of. As guest, you can visit the bars of all these breweries and taste their beers. There are even special ‘beerflights’ arranged by the organisation that make sure you can taste different beers in the right taste intensity.
Food start-up GREENFORCE is launching a B2B platform this month to serve the hospitality industry in the Netherlands with its vegetable powder mixes in bulk packaging. A couple of weeks ago we spotted the great term HosPETality and because we travel with our family & office dog, Labradoodle Jimmy, we spot a lot of examples of pet-friendly gestures. In hotels you have to pay a small fee for the dog but mostly you get a bowl, doggy pillows and if the dog is lucky, a treat! It already starts with the reservation, we booked a stay at a hotel in Spain and because we gave notice of our dog and asked them to book a table for dinner, they emailed us that they booked us a table at the terrace so Jimmy could accompany us for dinner. Just thoughtfull! We made a list of very great small gestures hotels and restaurants can implement.

Restaurant NOYA has a new name because another party claimed the name, so the owners changed it to restaurant YANO. Britta and Yuri Wattimena will open restaurant YANO in Rotterdam in the autumn of 2022. It is the first restaurant of the couple, who have extensive experience in Rotterdam’s top segment restaurants. The fine-dining restaurant will be located at Straatweg 114 in Hillegersberg, on the site of the former restaurant Zotte.

CITY ID continues European expansion with acquisition in the heart of Dublin. And ‘Bij Jef Restaurant & Hotel’ on Texel, a member since 2017 of Relais & Chateaux, was awarded five stars, the highest number of stars possible, by Hotel Stars. They are now not only the only restaurant near the Dutch Wadden Sea with a Michelin star, but also the only five-star hotel there.

The popularity of the Aperol Spritz remains undiminished, but we are seeing more and more versions of the Spritz and the non-alcoholic drinks are especially popular during the day! We have also spotted special glasses for drinks, a trend for 2022 as a colleague called it, but whether you can talk about it as a trend? During my time as a stewardess, I was given a small Buddha statue in which a plastic glass with a cocktail was placed at a Japanese Steakhouse, you could keep the Buddha. These Buddha’s were so popular with friends that I regularly enjoyed a cocktail there. And that was really a long time ago… ^Marjolein

Lifestyle aparthotel brand Locke is expanding in Europe with the opening of aparthotel WunderLocke – a hospitality concept in Munich that is the most ambitious Locke hotel to date. Open for short and long stays from 17 July, WunderLocke is the ideal starting point for locals and tourists alike to discover the up-and-coming Sendling district.
The developer and supplier of the Annoncer kitchen management system has signed a partnership agreement with the restaurant association Alliance Gastronomique. The agreement was signed on behalf of Alliance Gastronomique by chairman Gerard Wollerich and Annoncer managing director Madelon van Leenen.
Annoncer Kitchen management system has been developed by the Dutch company Index Hospitality Systems and is considered the most advanced system in the gastronomy sector. Orders arrive in the kitchen automatically and chefs have full control and overview of the tables and guests in the restaurant.
