We’ve been enjoying glorious summer weather for a few weeks now, and the popular seasonal drinks are already known. Mocktails, cocktails, spritz variations, rosé, and white wine remain favourites. Still, we’re seeing some new developments, both here in the Netherlands and around the world. Hard seltzers have firmly established themselves here in the Netherlands, especially at festivals, and alcohol-free beer is becoming increasingly popular. We’re curious whether summer drinks like the Sarti Spritz, the Matchatini, Osan Drinks, Established, and wines such as Kaiken Disobedience from Argentina will become more common. We do have our doubts about the Spicy Sauvy B, but luckily, the choice is yours!

Sarti Spritz | A summery pink drink you have to try in Italy

The continued popularity of the spritz is largely thanks to the iconic Aperol Spritz. However, we’re starting to see more and more variations popping up, like the Limoncello or Orancello Spritz. One version we haven’t seen yet in the Netherlands is a spritz with Italicus—we wrote about it back in 2021 after enjoying it several times in Italy.

Now, the Sarti Spritz by Sarti Aperitivo is popping up all over social media, and everyone is raving about it! This cheerful, pink summer drink combines the flavours of Sicilian blood oranges with tropical fruit. You can taste the Sarti Spritz in Italy, but we haven’t been able to find it in the Netherlands yet. So if you’re heading to a terrace in Italy this summer, be sure to ask for it! New Twists on the Espresso Martini | Will you serve a Matcha Martini or Tiramisutini?

The Espresso Martini is still going strong, but are we about to see more of its creative cousins – like the Matcha Martini or the Tiramisutini. We already spotted the Matcha Martini at Shin in Rotterdam. Shortly after opening, Shin also featured Matcha Tiramisu and Matcha ice cream on the menu. And now, the Matcha Martini is appearing on more and more terraces across the Netherlands. Below you’ll find a reel showing how to make your own Matcha Martini.

The Tiramisutini hasn’t crossed our path in the Netherlands just yet, but we did see one in a reel by Hatch44 Café, located in Metuchen & Bradley Beach, New Jersey. Check out their reel here.

Spicy Sauvy B | A Sauvignon Blanc with frozen Jalapeño slices

Spotted on social media – including the reel below from Misfit Market. But it’s also trending on TikTok and beyond, being hailed as the summer drink. We’re still undecided whether we’d actually want to try it!

Established Sparkling Tea has everything, but alcohol | Magnolia

Established (Est.) was founded in 2023 in Amsterdam by a group of friends – sommeliers, musicians, and creatives – who share a passion for great evenings and hangover-free mornings. They created a refined alternative to alcohol: Sparkling Tea Magnolia, handcrafted locally from pure green teas (Sencha & Gunpowder), blended with magnolia, juniper berries, and verbena. No alcohol, no additives, and barely any sugar. Elegant, complex, and highly versatile for food pairing. A second flavour, Honeybush – with rooibos, lavender, and spices – is launching soon. Eucalyptus, with a surprising touch of coffee, is next. In their first year, Established won a bronze medal at the World Alcohol-Free Awards. More details via the link in the title.

GiG Drinks, summer in a can!

GiG Drinks is a Dutch brand focused on refreshing, low-alcohol beverages such as Hard Seltzers, Hard Lemonades, and Hard Iced Teas. The drinks are low in sugar and calories, lightly sparkling, and made with natural fruit flavours. GiG offers a variety of flavours, including Berry Beat, Passionfruit Funk, Grapefruit Melody, and Cherry Symphony. We’ve written about GiG Drinks before.

Kaiken and Montes Wines from the Andes | Less alcohol, more flavour

For those seeking flavourful wines with lower alcohol content, the Argentine Kaiken Disobedience and Chilean Montes Outer Limits Albariño offer something special. These bold wines are full of character and perfect for adventurous wine lovers.

Kaiken Disobedience is a red blend from Mendoza that breaks away from the classic Malbec style. Instead of heavy oak and full body, it’s fresh, juicy, and expressive. With its lower alcohol percentage, it aligns with the preferences of a new generation of wine drinkers.

Montes Outer Limits Albariño comes from a little-known coastal region in Chile. The proximity to the ocean gives it a saline, fresh, and mineral character—surprisingly reminiscent of Spanish Albariños rather than typical South American styles.

Both wines are available via Delta Wines’ Dutch platform “Thuis genieten van wijn.” More details can be found at their websites (links in the title).

Non-alcoholic beer consumption at Dutch festivals and events rises by 35%

The Dutch are becoming increasingly mindful about alcohol consumption, according to recent figures from the Dutch statistics office (CBS). Heineken reports that non-alcoholic beer is rapidly taking the stage. At festivals, consumption of 0.0 beer has increased by no less than 35% compared to the previous year. In concert halls and music venues, the growth is even higher.

Heineken now offers a non-alcoholic variant for nine out of ten of its brands – including Amstel, Brand, and Desperados – and 0.0 beer is increasingly available on tap. With over fifty non-alcoholic beer brands worldwide, Heineken makes it easy for consumers to enjoy the social aspects of beer—without the alcohol. So even on café terraces, the non-alcoholic beer offering should be up to par. More details can be found in Heineken’s Dutch press release (link in the title).
