Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam officially opened its doors on June 28, 2018. This hotel is a special asset to Amsterdam due to its sustainable character and spectacular architecture. With the subtropical courtyard, the Café Jakarta restaurant and the Malabar sky bar, Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam takes guests on a journey of discovery where the East and the West merge. An inspiring location where sleeping, eating, drinking, working and relaxation can be found and a meeting place for hotel guests, local residents and Amsterdammers. We already wrote about the announcement of the construction of hotel Jakarta Amsterdam by Westcord Hotels and now that the hotel is finished, we like to show the result in photos.

One of the most sustainable hotel buildings in the Netherlands

The architecture and the special interior give the hotel a wow factor. The interior uses industrial elements in combination with modern-Asian accents. In the hotel there are various works of art from Indonesia from the national collection of the Tropenmuseum. The hotel is built in a sustainable way and many energy-saving measures have been applied, such as collecting rainwater for watering the courtyard. Solar energy is collected and converted into electricity via PV panels in the façade and roof of the atrium. The cooling and heating of the hotel itself is done by means of a heat and cold storage system. The staff wears sustainable company clothing, designed by the fashion label By Rockland HACKED by. Thanks to these sustainability performances, Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam is an energy-neutral building that, with a BREEAM Excellent certificate, is one of the most sustainable hotel buildings in the Netherlands.

Hotel Jakarta & Bakery Western

That there is a bakery in Hotel Jakarta is not entirely coincidental. The founder of WestCord Hotels comes from a real bakers family. Bakery Westers in Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam is therefore an ode to the original bakery on the Wadden Island. Bakery Westers lends itself perfectly for a breakfast with freshly baked croissants. But also during lunch there is a wide range of rich sandwiches. The light bakery is a perfect workspot for Amsterdammers from the neighborhood. In addition, Bakery Westers serves delicious pastries, pies and cakes in the in-house patisserie.

Public spaces | The subtropical courtyard, the terrace and the WellCome Wellness Amsterdam

Upon entering you immediately notice the huge subtropical courtyard with meters-high palms that have been realized in collaboration with the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam. The Café Jakarta is located on the ground floor with the sunny terrace on the south. On the first floor there is a comfortable lounge, Bakery Westers with espresso bar and WellCome Wellness Amsterdam with swimming pool, sauna and steam bath. All facilities are accessible to both hotel guests and guests from outside.

Café Jakarta

At Café Jakarta, French executive chef Stéphane Besse and Indonesian executive sous chef Rendy Reanaldy unite inviting and exotic flavours under the banner of ‘Two Worlds Connected’ in surprising oriental dishes with a Western twist. The restaurant creates an encounter between cultures, styles and cuisines where herbs blend, mix spices and fusing flavours. The large island bar invites you for a drink, the oyster bar is a mecca for lovers of fruits de mer and the large terrace located on the south gives a beautiful view over the IJ.

Malabar | cocktails with a view

On the 8th and 9th floor is the sky bar Malabar, named after a volcano on Java. Here, exciting cocktails are prepared with carefully chosen spirits and home-made infusions by passionate mixologists. The bar offers an extensive cocktail menu, from signature cocktails to ultimate classics. Malabar offers a fantastic view over the center of Amsterdam.
