Launched in October in West Hampstead (North West London), Heads + Tails is a new late-night cocktail bar from Will Partridge and Chris Dennis. As its name suggests, Heads + Tails is a bar of contrasts, both in its beautiful design and its creative output. Heads, a bright airy bar is cleverly juxtaposed with Tails, a dark, atmospheric basement bar. A top notch cocktail bar, with two floors and individual, distinctive menus, HEADS with a cocktail menu that mimics the styling of the bar featuring primarily light and refreshing vodka and gin based twists on classics and contemporary libations. TAILS will be serving short, bold-style offerings based mainly on bourbon, rum and Scotch. While both bars have their own individual and distinctive menus, all drinks will be available to order throughout the venue. Like the two sides of a coin, some drinks exist in unison.

HEADS + TAILS

Heads + Tails is the brainchild of industry experts and long-term collaborators Will Partridge (Wax Jambu, Kilburn Ironworks) and Chris Dennis (Sovereign Loss, Disrepute). The site, which was formerly one of West Hampstead’s longest standing nightspots Lately, is now set to cultivate a new wave of stylish drinking spaces in its laidback and village-like location on West End Lane. With a wealth of experience in hospitality, from specializing in bar operations and menu & cocktail design, to consulting in every aspect of the drinks industry, Will and Chris have reinvented the space to meet the critical elements of a sophisticated late-night cocktail bar. Designed by KKD. Beyond cocktails and spirits, Heads + Tails also boasts a unique and extensive wine list. The wine list is complemented with a strong fizz menu comprising a long Champagne offering and some lesser-known sparkling wines from around the world. Bar snacks will be available in both bars to accompany guests chosen tipples.

The interior HEADS

Bright with high lofty ceilings and flooded with natural light, the ground floor bar Heads has been designed with a cooling colour palette and features a marble topped bar. Full-length glass windows at both the front and rear of the bar create a sense of openness, inviting guests into a relaxed drinking area with a separate outdoor area. The cocktail menu mimics the styling of the bar featuring primarily light, refreshing vodka and gin based twists on classics and contemporary libations. Other lighter spirits act as accompaniments to produce a menu full of long refreshing cocktails as well as low & zero-alcohol concoctions and aperitivo-style drinks to complete the offering. The Dove blends pisco with Jasmine cordial – a combination of light yet tannic flavours with a refreshing sparkling wine finish. The Westside Spritz takes a classic aperitivo approach and introduces more bold flavours of mandarin and bergamot. The house Pink Lemonade with Lillet Rose and homemade citrus sherbet is an enticing exponent of the lower-alcohol list.

The interior TAILS

Downstairs guests will find Tails, designed to feel like the dark, moody antithesis to its light and airy sister venue Heads upstairs. Low ceilings, atmospheric dark walls, plush comfortable seating and a beautifully warm solid wood bar makes for an intimate drinking environment and provides the perfect place to unwind over a few cocktails. In opposition to the light and airy upstairs, Tails will be serving short, bold-style offerings based mainly on bourbon, rum and Scotch. The Twist of Fate (£9) plays homage to the Old Fashioned, using citrus oil and spices to help bring the bourbon to life. The Dynasty (£10) melds together cognac and green tea with punchy herbal notes on the finish. In contrast to the low-alcohol pairing of Heads, Tails’ boilermakers set the accompaniment.
