Gelateria Miuz recently opened and is located at Overtoom 117, right behind the always bustling Vondelpark and Oud-West. Carlo Petroni’s gelateria sells daily made, fresh, artisan gelato. Amsterdam is ready for gelateria Miuz

“Amsterdam is ready,” says Carlo Petroni, owner of Miuz. He refers to the arrival of a real gelateria, which uses the best ingredients and where the ice cream is made in-house from start to finish. Here they don’t work with prefab powders, pastes or flavors, but with fair trade cocoa beans, fresh lemons from Amalfi, single origin coffee beans and dairy from local farms.

Miuz’s gelato is deliciously creamy and made fresh every day by Carlo and his experienced (Italian) gelato chefs. Because the flavors and gelato are created from scratch, Carlo can continue to customize and experiment. For example, there is burrata gelato on the menu, and apple juice gelato, in addition to classic flavors like Stracciatella and pistachio. The entrepreneur knows exactly where all the ingredients come from – he knows the business and all its procedures – and retains the genuine, original flavors. For example, Miuz’s chocolate gelato is made with cocoa beans. The gelato is a lot more pure than the average chocolate ice cream, which consists mainly of sugar. At Miuz, you taste real cocoa.

Carlo is born and raised in Turin and he lives in the Netherlands since 2014. He grew up with gelato, made by professionals who are held in high esteem in Italy and compared to Michelin chefs. He couldn’t find his memory of the soft, creamy gelato full of flavor, in the Netherlands. Carlo found a gap in the culinary market, as Amsterdam develops more and more as a gastronomic epicenter. Consumers are increasingly willing to pay for quality, and that is exactly what gelateria Miuz wants to sell: the best gelato in the Netherlands. The gelato can be eaten in the stylish restaurant at the Overtoom, with a delicious espresso on the side, but can also be taken along for a walk in the park or as a take-away for at home. Or do what the Italians do: are you going to visit friends or family? Then instead of a bottle of wine or a bouquet of flowers, bring a bowl of the most delicious gelato!

At Miuz, not only is the quality of the gelato considered, but also the appearance has received a lot of attention. Studio Elisabeth Enthoven has reflected the soft and creamy shapes of gelato in the logo and further visual identity of the brand. The gelateria itself was designed by the Amsterdam-based interior design agency Heinzel | De Vries. They have made Miuz a fine establishment, with lots of wood, warm colors and round shapes.
