Cold brew coffee anyone?

This summer, I had the occasional cold espresso with an ice cube again. The first time I drank this cold espresso was in Spain, where an ‘espresso con hielo’ is a standard menu item. However, here in the Netherlands, cold coffee is not so popular as of yet. Of course, many drink a frappuccino or an iced coffee with vanilla ice cream, but the huge range of flavours and compositions you encounter abroad are still missing here. ^Marjolein

A short article filled with coffee inspiration! And at the end, an Instagram post featuring an espresso Barbietini!

Cold coffee | Nitro coffee, cold brews

We don’t drink the nitro coffee from the USA and cold brews here as frequently, in 2017 we wrote an article about Kaldi that started selling nitro coffee in Amsterdam. This has since been removed from their menu. As far as we know, the cold brews at Starbucks are not very popular here either. Still, coffee company Dutch Coffee, which we wrote about back in 2015, have their recipes for their cold coffees online on their website. Like my favourite, regular cold coffee with an ice cube. They also have the recipe for cold coffee with condensed milk online. Below is Coldkick’s Nitro Cold Brew Coffee, they sell their nitro coffee in cans!

Cold Brew coffee by Cold Kick

Cold Brew Coffee from cans – Cold Kick extracts flavour from ‘specialty’ coffee beans. Their coffee is produced with ice-cold water which ensures a bright flavour with virtually no bitters. They sell their coffee in cans: Nitro cold brew Coffee and Nitro Cold Brew Flat White Coffee. They use direct trade specialty coffee, meaning that there is no middleman between the farmer and the coffee. So farmers get paid 2X more than by most other coffee brands. More details on their website, link in the title.

Cold Brew Coffee examples from other parts of the world that are inspiring, listed below:

Iced coffee service at Café 33 in Kyoto

Several colleagues had come across this original way of serving iced coffee on Instagram. two cold brew servings served in a block of ice, thereafter, you can customise you cold brew with milk, sugar syrup and even a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It is served in a beautiful setting at Café 33 at the Hyatt Regency in Kyoto, check out the post below. Apparently, it is served this way more often and this Instagram post clearly shows the effect of serving it this way! 😉

Frozen espresso martini

For fans of espresso martini, we regularly spot frozen espresso martini’s on Instagram. Especially the way it is made by Tasty Drink Cocktails with espresso ice cubes looks very tasty!

A pocket espresso to-go

In Italy, you can buy pocket espresso to-go from Ferrero at for example supermarkets or gas stations. The pocket espresso is catered to a younger audience as they have added a hint of chocolate in the cubes. Therefore making it a lot sweeter and more appealing to a bigger audience that doesn’t like the taste of real espresso that much. We wouldn’t necessarily say it tastes a lot like espresso, however the younger generation at our office seem to have enjoyed it!

A Barbietini espresso martini

Spotted in an Instagram post by @liv.jah: a Barbietini. Made with a Baileys Red Velvet Cupcake. It looks very pink and sweet!

The comments say that this Baileys drink is no longer made so whether there is an alternative? Maybe the Baileys Strawberries & Cream is also pink but whether that would be tasty paired with espresso? In the title, a link to Baileys’ website. You can also try to find another recipe with #Barbietini. Check out the post below!
