Cleanyst recently launched an at home mixing system for creating natural home and body care products with minimal plastic waste. In May 2019 their product, developed by industry professionals, was backed for more than 200% for their crowdfunding at Kickstarter. The ‘reusable bottle system makes plant-based cleaning and personal care products with concentrated ingredients shipped in minimal packaging.

Great product for households but we could imagine that it might be a great asset for B&B’s and small luxury hotels as well! You could create your own shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, laundry detergent, fabric softener, all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner and tub and tile cleaner.

The Cleanyst system and sustainability

Cleanyst, a new company setting out to minimize plastic waste and carbon emissions from home and body care products, in May 2019 announced the launch of its revolutionary at-home system that allows consumers to easily create plant-based products using concentrated ingredients and water from their own taps. The product is anticipated to become available in December and includes a countertop appliance, reusable bottles for mixing and dispensing (supporters can choose from a range of quantities) and lightweight pouches containing concentrates made from naturally derived ingredients. The Cleanyst system empowers consumers to easily create safe and effective products that are free of dyes, synthetic fragrances and parabens, all while saving money over time and reducing environmental impact.

Cleanyst’s solution provides concentrates for a range of products and its patented Micro-Batch™ technology ensures a safe, effective and homogeneous mixture, all at the push of a button. By replicating the type of mixing that typically occurs in a lab or production facility, the Cleanyst system can blend high viscosity products such as shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent and fabric softener, which are produced from concentrates with a gel-like consistency. Typically, these cannot be effectively mixed through dilution or manual agitation alone.  Following the Kickstarter campaign, Cleanyst will be available for purchase and delivery direct to consumers via its website.

Water makes up two-thirds or more of the weight of most home and body care products, driving up not only packaging and shipment costs, but also plastic and carbon footprints. By only shipping necessary ingredients in minimal packaging, and leveraging reusable bottles, Cleanyst estimates it can reduce single-use plastic waste in this category by 80%. The company aims to make plant-based cleaning and personal care products more sustainable, accessible and affordable for consumers.

How does it work?

Creating home and body care products with the Cleanyst system only takes a few minutes – first, users load a reusable bottle and ingredients pouch into the appliance. Next, they select the applicable mix program for the pouch and the appliance does the rest, adding water at the required temperature, dispensing concentrate directly into the bottle, and mixing at the required speed. In two to three minutes, a 12 or 16 fl. oz. ‘micro-batch’ of a plant-based finished product is ready to use. The user simply twists on a dispensing accessory, such as a pump or sprayer, on the neck of the mixing bottle, which will be reused when the product runs out and it is time to create another batch.

About Cleanyst

Cleanyst is on a mission to make it easier to take better care of your home, body and planet. Cleanyst is the pioneer of a revolutionary, new approach to household cleaning and personal care that empowers you to create your own plant-based products in order to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions, and save money at the same time. The company was founded in 2015 by three brothers who combine industry experience with a passion for environmental sustainability and innovation.

“We’ve been working in the home and body care industries for decades and we’ve learned a lot about the water content in most products, as well as the best ways to manufacture and package the most sustainable and efficacious products on the market,” says Nick Gunia, co-founder and CEO of Cleanyst. “Consumers can save money, avoid exposure to toxic chemicals and be conscious of the environment by mixing their own products at home – so we designed a system that’s easy to use and eliminates the intimidation of creating your own natural products. Consumers have become increasingly discerning about the quality, safety and environmental impact of everyday products they use on themselves and their families, so we are excited to serve as an easy solution that meets this significant shift in consumer demand.”
