Dishes inspired by historical In-Flight Menu

To celebrate British talent 2012 Olympic Games, British Airways are launching an exclusive airline-themed pop-up venue on Shoreditch High Street in London next month. ‘Flight BA2012’ has been exclusively designed to recreate a premium flying experience and looks like the inside of an aircraft. Guests can enjoy a three-course meal created by Michelin-star chef Simon Hulstone that is inspired by the Olympic Games and BA in-flight menus dating back to 1948. BA2012 will be open on select weekdays from April 4th to the 17th.

Snackbox

Montreal-based firms Aedifica (architecture) and muvbox have teamed up to bring ‘snackbox’, a shipping container turned modern canteen, to new york’s times square. Created for restauranteur Jonathan Morr, the movable venue sells iconic new york street food with a gourmet flair. Located on a section of broadway with no vehicular traffic but many pedestrians, Morr needed a compact structure that would fit into the limited space, yet still stand out amidst the visually saturated area. The National Restaurant Association (USA) asked almost 1800 professional chefs about their opinion of the trends for 2012. They said about 223 items if it was a hot trend, yesterdays news or a perennial favourite. The results of the survey tell us that healthy food for kids, the use of local products, sustainability and social media are really important in 2012. Get the clothes

‘Krijg de kleren!’ (litterally ‘get the clothes’ but in figure of speech ‘F*ck off’) is an monthly initiative from Annemijn Boon and Rosan Brunger in a club in Amsterdam. Visitors –mostly women- bring old clothes with these and trade them with others while having a drink. The clothes that don’t have a new owner at the end of the evening will go to the next edition or are donated to Humana. Every edition has a theme, this Sunday it’s ‘Let’s Go Sjiek’.

Driving tram restaurant in Brussels

In February 2012 Electrolux will open the Tram Experience in Brussels; an unique driving tram restaurant in which Belgian top chefs will serve several dishes. For 75 euros guests can order Belgian classics with a personal touch. In this way one is able to combine gastronomy with sightseeing in Brussels.

Pop-up greenhouse Cypress Hills

The Greenhouse Project is a project that’s created as a result of obesity and diabetes in the low-income neighborhood Cypress Hills (New York). This pop-up greenhouse will provide the population with healthy food and will have a capacity of 8,000 pound per 3 months. Because the area has many vacant lots, it has the ability to move multiple times per year. The organization has a presence in Manhattan with hydroponic projects at schools since 2010 and hopefully it will enter Cypress Hills soon. See the greenhouse here.
