Inspired by spring and summer, co-founder and culinary creator of Frites Atelier Sergio Herman has created fresh, summery taste sensations. The flavors will give you the feeling of a summer in Italy or deep into the Arabian fairy tale of a thousand and one nights. The influences of the various cultures and cuisines come to the fore in the new specials. The specials ‘Arabic Baba & Feta’ as well as the return of our seasonal specials: ‘Sea Nori’, ‘Parmasan & Basil’ and a whole new tasty snack, the ‘Fish Burger’. Starting this week, Frites Atelier will serve the very latest Spring Summer Collection.
Fries are the main snacks in the Netherlands, we have ‘snackbars’ where you can order a simple portion of fries with or without mayonnaise, or other sauces and of course other snacks like our famous ‘kroketten’. Since a couple of years we have the culinary expert, chef Sergio Herman (has and had several Michelin star restaurants), who creates culinary specials, for the fancy snackbar/restaurant chain Frites Atelier. His Spring/Summer ’22 collection even has a fries ‘Arabic Baba & Feta’! If you want to enjoy a culinary portion of fries, visit one of their locations in The Hague, Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Designer Outlet Roosendaal. Worth a detour!

The name Mywabi is derived from the Japanese philosophy of life, Wabi-Sabi, which is characteristic of the Japanese culture and national character. Perfection is pursued, but at the same time there is the realization that it is precisely the imperfection that holds a pure beauty that adds a unique, distinctive look. Mywabi’s collection includes an extensive palette of more than 150 designs for plates, bowls, cups and mugs and teapots. Each design is unique in its final form due to the fact it’s artisanal manufactured. The products are made of ceramic or porcelain. The products are imported directly from Japan.

Freshly Chopped Leiden | First location from this chain in the Netherlands

On Monday 14 March, the very first Freshly Chopped location in the Netherlands will open at the Stationsweg 11 in Leiden. This successful Irish franchise concept already has more than 60 restaurants in Ireland, the UK and on Cyprus, and now the Dutch can enjoy their fresh, healthy and tasty salads and meals as well. Core of the fresh formula: all ingredients are freshly ‘chopped’ under the watchful eye of the guest. As an opening promotion they have a Leiden Garden Salad (with cheese from Leiden) with a bottle of Vitamin Well.

Chouffe Classic | Belgian beer brand brings cycling tour to Drenthe

Not the green heart of the Belgian Ardennes, but the wooded landscape of Drenthe will be the setting for the Chouffe Classic on Saturday June 4. For the first time this originally Belgian cycling classic will be held in The Netherlands. An extra festive edition, because the well-known beer is celebrating its fortieth birthday this year. Speed and winning are not central to this sport event, but it is all about fun and joy. During the last meters of the most difficult climb of the tour, the music gives just that last bit of energy. Strand22 | To the beach in Almere City Centre

Almere City Centre has a special new address, Strand22 has recently opened on Esplanade 14. The beach at the Esplanade will open on March 9. At Strand22, guests can already enjoy a delicious drink or dinner with a phenomenal view from inside. Now that the weather is getting better and with plenty of sun forecasted in the coming days, the large terrace is also open. This spring and summer it is the ideal place for an evening of cocktails or a night out.
Almere is a city in the Dutch province Flevoland. It is a drive of approximately 30 minutes from Amsterdam. The city is surrounded by waters such as Gooimeer, IJmeer and Markermeer. A perfect place for a city beach.

The #KentuckyFriedGivingChallenge in America is a good example of involving young guests in ‘a good cause’ via TIKTOK®. And in the field of sustainability, we came across the Norwegian material science company B’ZEOS. They are working with international companies to replace single-use plastics with seaweed-based alternatives.

New flagship store for The Avocado Show in the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands

The founders of the beloved restaurant The Avocado Show, Julien Zaal and Ron Simpson will open a new format of their fast-growing chain on Saturday 12 March. Centrally located between The Hague and Leiden, the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands is the ideal place for the first Dutch branch of The Avocado Show outside of Amsterdam.
Designed in collaboration with their permanent creative team at Aces of Space, this new version of The Avocado Show with 80 seats and a surface area of 190m2 has the appearance of a colorful patio. The guests sit under natural light and are surrounded by many green-pink color accents; the well-known setting of The Avocado Show. Original dishes are served, in their signature style, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Think of the now world famous poke bowl, stacked pancakes, an avocado smashed burger and even cocktails, where the avocado seeds are used as ice cubes.

Underground venue Obsidian by Graphite | Where vegan meets music

Patron-cuisinier Peter Gast of restaurant Graphite (* Michelin) opens underground venue Obsidian by Graphite in the heart of Amsterdam on 3 March. The top chef will experiment with plant-based dishes and you can enjoy (unplugged) music at this location.
The intimate space, complete with a cozy bar, low stage and comfortable seats, are an invitation to relaxed or exciting evenings, filled with good food, a good glass of wine and the best music. The cozy and informal location offers space for vegan dinners, live music and the best performances ever. Obsidian by Graphite can also be booked for private events or meetings, provided by restaurant Graphite.
