Just over thirty ostrich eggs and as many Dutch artists. These are the ingredients for the Eggshibition at Brouwerij ‘t IJ, which is being organized for the second time this year in Amsterdam. From cartoonist to tattoo artist and from rapper to illustrator – they all went to work, resulting in unique works of art. Certainly no eggs to hide and therefore they will be exhibited over the Easter weekend at Sissi’s Expo-Resto in Amsterdam. During this exhibition you can also enjoy a good glass of PaasIJ, the delicious hoppy spring beer that the Amsterdam brewery makes every year especially for Easter.

Second Eggshibition at Brouwerij ‘t IJ during Easter in Amsterdam

Spring is a time of inspiration for the brewery, Brouwerij ‘t IJ. That is why artists in Amsterdam and far beyond were invited to paint an ostrich egg as they see fit. In the meantime, 32 artists of very different backgrounds have transformed the ostrich eggs into a next-level work of art. Altogether, a colourful collection of works that appeals to the imagination. If you want to see them with your own eyes, you are welcome in the afternoon of 16, 17 and 18 April at Sissi’s Expo-Resto in Amsterdam-Oost.

The first collection of painted ostrich eggs dates from 2019, the egg art collection of 2022 was made by: Anne Pröpper, Aukje Dekker, BatArtWorks, Chieri Higa, The Cock Chronicles, Darko Groenhagen, Def P, Floris Felix, Frenchie, Gabi Brunhoso, Jantien Derks, Jorik Breur, Loes van Delft, Marc Sylla, Merel Cremers, Michiel Romeijn, Michiel van der Born, Miranda Ensink, Muis Kortland & Onno Kortland, Olivier van Rees – Vellinga, Piet Kroon, Positivity Branding, Rocco Hueting, Rogier van der Heijden, Rosanne van Spaendonck, Sam Mowgli Andrea, Sasa Ostoja, SjocoSjon, Sjoerd Koopmans, Thijson, Trobbies and Vincent Dams.

Egg on a pedestal

Brewery ‘t IJ about the new collection: “Just like three years ago, when we did this for the first time, artists are enthusiastic about it. Each egg is a unique art object. The great diversity and combination of well-known and lesser-known names makes it a special collection. They can be admired in full glory on their own pedestal. We will gladly drink a PaasIJ (a beer called EasterIJ) to that!

Fresh like a spring day | Spring bock beer the PaasIJ

PaasIJ is a light amber-coloured spring bock beer with a soft spicy taste and 7% alcohol. The aromas of fruit, coriander, yeast and hops create a nice balance, which pleasantly combines with the lightly roasted malt for a fine bitterness. The aftertaste is slightly tingling and fresh as a beautiful spring day. So it is not surprising that beer lovers enjoy the PaasIJ beer every year.

About Brouwerij ‘t IJ

Brouwerij ‘t IJ was founded in 1983 by musician and Belgian beer enthusiast Kasper Peterson. His own special beer, initially brewed at an old home, caught on and he converted the empty bathhouse next to windmill De Gooyer into a brewery. A tasting room and terrace soon followed. Over twenty years later, Peterson sold his brewery to Bart Obertop and Patrick Hendrikse, who continued to brew classics, but also brought new styles and flavours on the market. IJwit is the best-known beer today. But their seasonal beers, of which PaasIJ is one, are also very popular every year.

We wrote about the Brewery ‘t IJ before, in 2015 they created together with 2 Michelin stars restaurant Ciel Blue in Amsterdam: Ciel Blue IPA.
