On Monday 14 March, the very first Freshly Chopped location in the Netherlands will open at the Stationsweg 11 in Leiden. This successful Irish franchise concept already has more than 60 restaurants in Ireland, the UK and on Cyprus, and now the Dutch can enjoy their fresh, healthy and tasty salads and meals as well. Core of the fresh formula: all ingredients are freshly ‘chopped’ under the watchful eye of the guest. As an opening promotion they have a Leiden Garden Salad (with cheese from Leiden) with a bottle of Vitamin Well.

While in America and England the date for the annual Pancake Day coincides with Mardi Gras (fat Tuesday after Carnival, the evening before fasting starts) and Shrove Day, we here in the Netherlands celebrate our National Pancake Day on March 18 2022. Because the dates differ, owners of pancake restaurants can use inspiration from the pancake days in England and the USA! Our colleague Jesse Oldenburg has created a list of inspiring promotions and tasty pancake recipes! Chouffe Classic | Belgian beer brand brings cycling tour to Drenthe

Not the green heart of the Belgian Ardennes, but the wooded landscape of Drenthe will be the setting for the Chouffe Classic on Saturday June 4. For the first time this originally Belgian cycling classic will be held in The Netherlands. An extra festive edition, because the well-known beer is celebrating its fortieth birthday this year. Speed and winning are not central to this sport event, but it is all about fun and joy. During the last meters of the most difficult climb of the tour, the music gives just that last bit of energy. Raw Foods | Raw vegan cakes from Hungary

Recently Raw Foods entered the Austrian market with their raw vegan cakes made from premium ingredients, products like Coconut and Chocolate Mousse, Apple and Vanilla Tarte or the very popular Flodni have already convinced hundreds of café and restaurant owners to put these vegan products on their menu in Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and now also in Austria. First resellers are in and around Vienna and Wiener Neustadt. All their products are gluten-, lactose, egg-free and do not contain refined sugar.
The company Raw Foods is expanding outside Hungary and especially for those restaurants and cafés who want to offer vegan cake alternatives it might be a solution if you don’t have the capacity to make them in your own place.

Almere City Centre has a special new address, Strand22 has recently opened on Esplanade 14. The beach at the Esplanade will open on March 9. At Strand22, guests can already enjoy a delicious drink or dinner with a phenomenal view from inside. Now that the weather is getting better and with plenty of sun forecasted in the coming days, the large terrace is also open. This spring and summer it is the ideal place for an evening of cocktails or a night out.
Almere is a city in the Dutch province Flevoland. It is a drive of approximately 30 minutes from Amsterdam. The city is surrounded by waters such as Gooimeer, IJmeer and Markermeer. A perfect place for a city beach.

The award ceremony of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 in July moves from Moscow to London. And Ikea opened its first city centre shopping mall in west London, Livar.
Also in London: the reopening of The Connaught Grill. Another opportunity to taste the cuisine of Jean-Georges Vongerichten. And European aparthotel operator Staycity has opened a new-build property at Germany’s Frankfurt Airport this month, its third opening in Germany, bringing its total apartment count up to 5,000 in 30 properties at 14 European destinations.
Being able to get a pizza from a vending machine 24/7: Resto’Clock currently installs about 30 vending machines per month in France and Belgium. We also came across BistroBox in Austria where you can pull a pizza from the machine within 2 minutes.
The #KentuckyFriedGivingChallenge in America is a good example of involving young guests in ‘a good cause’ via TIKTOK®. And in the field of sustainability, we came across the Norwegian material science company B’ZEOS. They are working with international companies to replace single-use plastics with seaweed-based alternatives.

Zero Egg challenges students to make the world’s highest egg flip

In its quest to make plant-based food accessible to everyone, Zero Egg is starting with the newest generation of food lovers — college students! The plant-based egg company took America’s largest college, the University of Central Florida (UCF) by storm yesterday, kicking off its partnership with the university by serving up delicious plant-based egg meals; delivering Zero Egg sandwiches to students around campus on their own branded tandem bicycle; and hosting an afternoon of fun and games on the campus’ Greek Row.
