Beer in a box: a fast growing beer specialist from Alkmaar approaches drinking beer in an innovative way. Based on a unique, self-learning taste profile, customers receive a box of specialty beers every 2 months. ‘de Beer’ does not only respond to the specialty beer trend but also gives the beer drinker the opportunity to discover and develop their taste via a ‘beer flavour test’ at their website.

Beer in a box | The flavour profile

Beer in a box is established to make favourable specialty beers easier accessible. Dutch research showed that there is an increase in specialty beer drinkers: four out of five people drink specialty beers. The increase in supply makes it difficult to find those beers that are worth trying and people tend to stick to the beers they are familiar with. That is why Beer in a box developed the (beer)flavour profile. By answering a few questions, you get insight into your preferred flavour. Based on this profile you can order a box filled with specialty beers.

In the last few months, the flavour profile has been developed by specialists such as beer sommeliers, breweries, beer lovers and data scientist. Nice to know is that it’s a self-learning profile that makes use of smart data that grows with the individual beer drinker.

From beginner to beer geek

The flavour test helps inexperienced beer drinkers start their specialty beer experience. Are you an experienced beer drinker, than you can immediately jump into your taste level. Via this, ‘de Beer’ allows you to start at the level that suits your taste. After tasting the beers, they will ask your opinion about the Box. Based on your opinion, your flavour profile will be updated continuously so you keep on discovering new beers.

Ode to smaller breweries

Beer in a Box wants to provide access to the original flavours that small breweries and upcoming breweries are offering to every beer lover. The boxes are available in different sizes and can be ordered separately or you can subscribe yourself so you receive a box automatically every two months. All based on your flavour profile. The beer boxes do not only consist of specialty beers from national- and international breweries but also contain a story about each beer and its brewery. To exceed your expectations, they also feature recipes.
