Gault&Millau Austria introduces a ‘Longevity & Medical Wellness’ category for the first time
This year’s Gault&Millau hotel guide for Austria features 688 properties, ranging from a lakeside retreat to a grand city hotel. For the first time, there is a separate category for ‘Longevity and Medical Wellness’.
Longevity Hotel of the Year is Vivamayr Medical Health Resort in Maria Wörth, Carinthia. On the southern shore of the Wörthersee, modern Mayr medicine was born. The 46 rooms and suites, apartments and a villa with views of the lake offer a place to unwind. The Vivamayr Pure programme consists of six combinable modules, including ‘Mental Resilience’, ‘Immunboost’ and ‘Healthy Aging & Longevity’. At its heart is a fully personalised, easily digestible diet, because according to Mayr medicine, balance begins in the gut. That doesn’t mean going without: under the motto ‘Vegetables are our DNA’, the menu includes dishes such as beetroot goulash and Vivamayr moussaka. You can read the German-language press release from Gault&Millau Austria here.
CÔNE Paris | Modern specialty coffee trends
CÔNE opened in March 2026 and is a coffee bar serving espresso-based drinks at 19 Quai des Grands Augustins, in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood. Their menu includes a −86 °C Dirty Coffee (check out the reel below, spotted at Paris Food Guide). Other specialty coffee trends on offer are the −86 °C Dirty Matcha, glitter matcha and the still-popular Coffee in a Cone (we wrote about it back in 2016). Spotted during the 3 October celebrations in Leiden | A Leiden tradition with a Neapolitan soul
Leiden’s ‘Ontzet’ (‘relief’) commemorates the relief of Leiden from the Spanish siege on 3 October 1574. It has been celebrated every year since, with festivities throughout the city. A range of activities and events takes place from 1 October until the 3rd, including a funfair, a street theatre festival, a large parade, a memorial service in the St. Pieterskerk, and the traditional handing out of herring and white bread (the same food that was given to the starving citizens after the relief in 1574).
As Leiden is our hometown, we spot many initiatives inspired by this event, such as the special focaccia from Giò Neapolitan Espresso. It is based on the dish associated with the celebrations: ‘hutspot’ (a mash of carrots, onions and potatoes). The focaccia is topped with homemade hutspot cream, grilled aubergines, salame Napoli, buffalo burrata and balsamic onions. It is only available until 3 October, and we love initiatives like this! Last year Café de Gaper introduced ‘Deftig Snacken’ (refined snacks).

New work shoe for hospitality professionals
A long lunch service, a full terrace or a busy evening in the restaurant: anyone working in hospitality covers quite a few miles without noticing. Comfortable shoes are essential, but grip and a professional appearance matter too. That is why EMMA Safety Footwear is introducing Connect Sport: a new O2 work shoe that combines the comfort and sporty look of a sneaker with features built for demanding days in hospitality. Swimming pool puts its catering on in-house-built software | One overview instead of twelve systems
At the Inge de Bruijn Swimming Pool in Barendrecht, admission, swimming lessons and catering all run through the same till. What was missing was an overview: revenue in the till, planning in the scheduling system, reviews on Google, reports in Excel. Just checking how the catering had done? That took an afternoon. Marketer Sem van der Wilk built software for it himself while employed at the pool, and since January 2026 he has done so through his own company. The pool kept its existing systems; a layer was added on top that connects more than twelve of them. For the catering, that means:
- Revenue without retyping. Till, catering and accounting in one overview.
- A briefing every morning. At 07:00, an email is waiting with revenue, visitor numbers and deviations.
- Reviews and questions that don’t get left behind. An AI receptionist answers questions, including in the evenings and at weekends. Replies to Google reviews are prepared and ready, pending approval from a staff member.
The pool hasn’t replaced a single system. Van der Wilk would rather connect what is already there than have a company migrate everything. For catering within a multi-service venue, such as a swimming pool, sports centre or leisure park, that is often the fastest route. The systems are already in place; they just don’t talk to each other. More information on his website. We also recently wrote about a chef who built his own reservation tool with AI.

Disaronno introduces a new bottle design with the global campaign ‘The Dolce Side of Life’
Disaronno is introducing a redesigned bottle that further strengthens the brand’s signature look while adding a contemporary dimension. The bottle is taller, lighter and more vibrant. Everything that makes it so recognisable remains: the iconic shape, the heritage and the distinctive character. At the same time, new colours and a more refined finish give the design a fresh, modern feel. With the bottle’s renewed visual identity, DISARONNO is launching ‘The Dolce Side of Life’. This new communication platform celebrates the sweet, uplifting moments that make everyday life special. More details on their website.
Utrecht gets a wine club where everyone is welcome to join
On Wednesday 14 October, The Biggest Wine Club in Utrecht kicks off. Wine influencer Annemiek Hummelink (@miekandgrapes) and Tessel Andeweg of bar Vivid are organising the first edition. The idea: everyone brings one bottle that others really need to try, from a favourite supermarket wine to a holiday discovery or that special bottle sitting in the cupboard. At Vivid, the bottles are shared. That way you taste wines you might never have chosen yourself and get to know the people behind them. The initiative came about after questions from Annemiek’s followers: where do you meet other wine lovers in Utrecht?
No wine knowledge is needed, and coming alone is perfectly fine. Vivid provides the venue and the glasses; snacks and other drinks can be ordered separately. More details on Vivid’s website.
