A taste of Surinamese flair with the first new bowl in eight years. After eight years, 50 locations, and millions of bowls served, Hawaiian is taking a bold step by expanding its menu with an entirely new signature bowl: the Faya Bowl. Developed in collaboration with comedian Jay Francis, the bowl reflects his Surinamese roots and personal taste profile, translated into a Caribbean-inspired creation. The result is a vibrant combination of color and spice.

The Faya Bowl | Jay’s inspiration, Hawaiian’s execution

The Faya Bowl is inspired by Jay Francis’ Surinamese background and his love for bold, spicy flavors. The ingredients reflect these influences.

“Of course something has to taste great, but for me a collaboration is also about the people behind it. With Hawaiian, it immediately felt right. I instantly connected with one of the founders, and we turned out to think alike in many ways. Our values align well, both personally and professionally. That’s what made creating my Faya Bowl together even more special: full of flavor and something that genuinely feels right,” says Jay Francis.

The ingredients have been carefully selected to reflect Jay’s Surinamese heritage:

  • Madame Jeanette chili, combined with a fresh yellow tomato salsa
  • Banana chips for crunch
  • Mango and guacamole for freshness
  • Chicken for added protein
  • A brand-new dressing with curry, chili, and mango

This marks the first time in eight years that Hawaiian has added a completely new bowl to its core menu. The Surinamese influences give the bowl a familiar taste in the Netherlands, where Surinamese cuisine has long held a popular place.

A natural next step for Hawaiian

Hawaiian, a Belgian concept, has established itself as a key player in the Netherlands and continues to expand, with plans to open 10 new locations this year. The launch of the first new bowl in eight years comes at a strategic moment. The Dutch market has matured, the community continues to grow, and Hawaiian is responding to evolving customer needs. The Faya Bowl is now available in all locations and online via Uber Eats, Takeaway.com, Thuisbezorgd, and Deliveroo until the end of May.
