This year Pulitzer Amsterdam is celebrating their 50th anniversary and 2020 is going to be all about ‘Stories To Stay’. The hotel which is located at the canals of Amsterdam, is famous for its unique design, inspired by the stories and history of the twenty-five historical buildings alongside the canals; timeless charm combined with historical elements and comfort of the modern age. Pulitzer Amsterdam is celebrating this golden year by bringing an homage to the stories that took place behind the doors of these houses.

Pulitzer Amsterdam goes back in time

Founder of the hotel, Peter Pulitzer, bought twelve canal houses in the ‘60s and created a hotel that was opened in 1970. The hotel became one of the first five star hotels in Amsterdam. Peter Pulitzer’s motto was: “Your neighbours’ house is only for sale once”. With this in mind he expanded the hotel through the years. He eventually owned twenty-five 17th and 18th century houses alongside famous canals such as the Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht and Reestraat. In the last 50 years the hotel had over four million guests from all over the world, all of them having their own motivations to stay at the hotel.

Dutch elegance and timeless charm

The Pulitzer Amsterdam reopened her doors in August 2016, after a renovation and restyling of 1,5 years of all 400 year old canal houses. The current design reflects the history and individual character of each indivudal property. A mix of Dutch elegance and an eclectic style like the four extraordinary themed suites which all have a private entrance at the canal. The restyling is inspired by the stories of the intriguing characters that have lived at the properties throughout the years.

50 years of Pulitzer’s #StoriesToStay

Pulitzer Amsterdam is celebrating this year with the appropriate theme ‘Stories To Stay’ and emphasises the stories that were created by former residents, visitors and hotel guests in the past 50 years. From the first guest that checked in on the 27th of Octobre 1970 until this very day, the hotel always had one vision; providing guests a ‘home away from home’ by offering a stay in a unique canal house. In 2020, Pulitzer Amsterdam is all about the personal experience, which is primarily made possible by the employers.

Yvonne van der Klaauw, General Manager of Pulitzer Amsterdam, says: “We are proud to provide a place where everyone can feel special for 50 years now. From hotel guests to neighbours to the local people from Amsterdam. Some of our employers have been working for us for over 40 years and really enjoy it. Our anniversary marks the next chapter and is a very special moment in the history of our hotel. I am immensely proud of everyone who has been part of this journey for the past 50 years.”

Festive activities and 50 overnight stays to give away

The theme for the 50th anniversary has inspired all activities, such as the annual Garden Party where the statue of Peter Pulitzer will be revealed and the festive ’50 Years Celebration Package’. The Pulitzer Amsterdam is also giving away 50 overnight stays in collaboration with their partners, sharing 50 stories of former guests and those celebrating their 50th anniversary in the same month will be offered a cocktail at the Pulitzer’s Bar. Pulitzer Amsterdam is celebrating ‘Stories To Stay’ throughout the whole year of 2020. For more information visit the website.
