Inspiration | Will Shawarma be the next big thing in food?

10-7-2018

We spotted Choco Kebab some years back but the last couple of weeks we got a couple of Facebook posts about this sweet version of shawarma. We also spotted a DIY shawarma in New York City and most recently a vegan shawarma that’s being served at Noma in Copenhagen. Here in the Netherlands we love a great shawarma joint, especially if they serve it with lamb meat. But we never spotted a vegan version before, some inspiration in this article! read more

This month Meriel Armitage’s Club Mexicana and The Spread Eagle, London’s first 100% vegan pub in Hackney, will host a series of one-off Taco Tuesdays to kick start the summer. Joining Meriel at the pass will be a line-up of Club Mexicana’s friends from the London food scene, including vegetarian chef and best-selling Author Anna Jones, chef Neil Rankin of Temper, and organic sourdough pizza experts Radio Alice, all ready to put their own vegan spin on the traditional Mexican taco, whilst The Spread Eagle’s Sherri Lee Eastabrook will be shaking up the pub’s signature cocktails to wash things down. We love those examples of collaboration, we spotted a couple of them around one product in London, like for example the pita bread and Kulcha. Check out the inspiration! read more

The Vive La Tarte bakery, located in the Ferry Building in San Francisco created the Tacro, the newest croissant-hybrid food craze. You have to eat the Tacro like a taco, it’s stuffed with savoury fillings but it’s made of crispy croissant puff pastry. We wrote about it in our ‘Trends we spotted in week 4 of 2018’ and recently got images, that’s when we decided to write an article about it. And at their Facebook page we saw that they’ve got a new creation: Gotcha Mocha! If you’re a baker you might want to go to San Francisco for inspiration but if you’re a tourist you might consider to simply enjoy a Tacro for lunch at Vive la Tarte! read more

The cauliflower as substitute for chicken

13-12-2017

Early November I received an app from my daughter from New York with the question if I had already written about the trend ‘cauliflower as substitute for chicken’. Seems to be popular in New York and you have to think of cauliflower prepared as buffalo wings or dishes like ‘General Tsao cauliflower’ instead of chicken. Since then I came across a couple of examples, time to start being creative with cauliflower as substitute for chicken! read more
