Rik Jansma, chef and owner of restaurant Basiliek in Harderwijk has designed a special limited edition of the famous Dutch ‘pepernoot’. A special gingerbread biscuit served traditionally at the celebration of the anniversary of Sinterklaas ( Saint Nicholas). The chef, awarded with a Michelin star has created this culinary ‘pepernoot’ in collaboration with Van Delft Biscuits. A floating pool in the middle of New York City’s East River, wouldn’t that be great? It might become reality thanks to crowd-funding. +Pool, a sustainable design project that would bring a giant filtration system disguised as a pool to the waters separating Manhattan and Brooklyn. Aiming to clean up to half a million gallons of river water each day. Architectural firm Family and the design office PlayLab, would allow New Yorkers the opportunity to swim in the East River safely for the first time in a century. The project scored headlines two years ago when ideas for the pool first surfaced on Kickstarter. Now the ambitious dream has inched closer to reality, as PlayLab/Family has achieved their goal last week at the Kickstarter page to gear toward creating a test pool. Together with agency Wieden & Kennedy New York, the beer brand challenges passengers to play the ‘Departure Roulette’ at Kennedy Airport. Passengers with their passport and tickets already in their hands, could change their flight to an unexpected destination. The ‘Departure Roulette’ is inspired by the new Heineken campaign that previously sent four men to remote destinations and filmed their adventures, launched by Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam.

It sometimes happens that people steal a glass from the bar as a reminder of the night out. Cider-maker Kopparberg has developed a solution for this problem. They protected their new glasses with a security system with ink. When the ‘thief is more than 100 meters away from the bar the ink will ‘explode’. The goal is not to punish people but to dissuade them from stealing the glass.

The ‘Titaan’ (Dutch for ‘Titan’) is a pure experience-location for meetings and private dining. Leon Verraes and het girlfriend Inge Vermeulen are the owners of the ship since March 2010. The ship is newly built in 2001 by Talsma in Franeker and finetuned in 2002 by SRF in Harlingen. It’s built by ING Real Estate as luxe meeting location for real estate developers and business relations. The ship has a capacity of 70-80 people while boarded, on the water it’s possible to sail with 55 guests.

Hotel Restaurant Oud London has recently renovated the first 28 of its 88 hotel rooms. The comfort and sustainability were the basic principles by designing the hotel rooms. All rooms have LED lighting and the new furniture is made of recycled teak wood. The rooms have a natural and sustainable look. The rooms have no minibar, but there is a large open cooling at the reception with an assortment of drinks and snacks for ‘to go’.

At the website of ‘The Special Choice’ you can order culinary dishes online, pay and collect them at the restaurant. This concept allows guests to enjoy culinary delights at home or at work. The dishes are healthy and responsible and prepared with fresh products. The dishes are provided with a quality label with the origin of the ingredients. The platform AirBnB where individuals can offer their homes for temporary rental to tourists or expats has now become a huge success. It appears that more branches copy this concept. We’ve spotted ‘Eat With‘, a website where users can offer their ‘kitchen’ as an alternative for the restaurants in the area. CampInMyGarden, a website that offers sleeping places in gardens and outdoor houses, a cheap night and often at central locations. Now the platform ‘Boat Bound’ is launched. Whether you are looking for a fishing boat, a sailboat or a barge, Boat Bound offers private boats anywhere in the United States, at any price. We wonder when we can rent a boat in the canals for Amsterdam at Boat Bound.

Chocolate beer, honey-beer, tobacco beer… We now spotted coffee beer! Anchor coffee, a small coffee company in Japan and brewery Sekinoichi in Japan have developed a unique coffee beer. A drink for the real coffee and beer lover! During the brewing process of the beer they added coffee beans, the bitterness and aroma of coffee gives the beer a deeper flavor. To save costs, existing bottles have been used and are covered with small bean-shaped stickers. The packaging is designed by Nendo. Both villages where the coffee company and brewery are located, were destroyed by the tsunami in 2011. The coffee beer is a charity project to fundraise for disaster relief.

The newly opened Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal has a camel milk mixologist. The hotel offers different flavours of camel milk milkshakes, like strawberry and mint. The camel milk mixologist suggests guests which camel milk flavours to pair with different dishes to create the ultimate tasting experience. This service is being launched during Ramadan, to offer something special. Camel milk has a high content of protein and additional nutrients and is excellent to consume during the morning meal with Ramadan. Earlier we saw bread and chocolates of camel milk.

A real fashionista and love to eat? Visit the lounge bar ‘Sorel’s Midtown Bar & Lounge’ at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel on Saturday, July 6th and Sunday, July 7th. The lounge bar is fully dedicated to fashion during the ‘downtown’ program of the Fashion week, where fashion and food are the main ingredients of the lounge bar. Five conceptual dress silhouettes made from organic vegetables and fruit juices will be exhibit in the lounge bar. These dresses, also known as ‘eat patterns’ are made by the ‘Culinaire Werkplaats‘ with the aim to set people thinking about sustainability and the roll of the fashion world. The lounge bar also offers a stylish menu of fresh dishes and snacks.

Earlier we saw QR-codes of lemons and avocados or edible QR-codes made of cookie dough. Restaurant Harney Sushi in San Diego and Oceanside labels its sushi with edible QR-codes printed in edible ink on rice wafers. By scanning the QR-code with a smartphone, the guests will get more information. Including information about the sushi served and the origin of the ingredients. Very useful, because usually when I get sushi served it is always difficult to determine the type of sushi and ingredients ^Laura

Offer your hotel guests the experience of relaxing in a hammock in combination with soaking in hot water with the ‘Vessel’ bathtub. This bathtub is fixed with stainless steel brackets on the wall. The ‘Vessel’ is designed by Splinter Works and available in the colors black, red, blue, yellow, pink, bronze and silver.

New York has many parks, where New Yorkers enjoy some time to relax after the working day and rest on a bench. Aircraft company Virgin Atlantic has surprised the park-goers in a funny way! Virgin Atlantic placed a red bench in the middle of a street in New York to give the people a taste of what they could expect during a flight. Watch the video to see the reactions of the people. Inhabitants of The Hague get the possibility to stay in a hotel in their own city. The first edition of the ‘Hotel night The Hague’ will take place on September 7th and 8th. Inhabitants of the city can stay in the most special hotels for a special rate on 7 and 8 September. With the Hotel Night ticket they can also join the culinary, creative and cultural events organized by the participating hotels. The tickets are also valid for several touristic attractions. The complete program will be announced at the end of July. Earlier this year the Hotel Night was organized in Amsterdam.
