After two sold-out editions in 2020 and 2021 with city oasis ‘de Zomertuin’, a new event returns to Eindhoven this year. City terrace ‘de Prairie’ will take place from Wednesday, 15 June to 28 August at De Caai. At the Prairie, you can play among the hay bales and farm animals, eat tasty and healthy food, barbecue or have a drink, and above all, be inspired by the pure outdoor life.

11 weeks to enjoy the city terrace ‘de Prairie’

“We want to bring the freedom, cosiness, purity and simplicity of the countryside to the city of the future. The feeling in the word ‘de prairie’ (known from the series Little House on the Prairie) brings back that nostalgic family feeling”, say Tim and Sabine who are, among other things, co-founders of City Oasis ‘de Zomertuin’ (the Summer Garden), which has taken place on the same site for the past two years. This summer it will look completely different, city terrace ‘de Prairie’ with a nod to the countryside. “Hay, animals, pure food, barbecue, games, family and conviviality.”

Plenty of entertainment for young and old

From mid-June onwards, ‘de Prairie’ will be all about enjoying the good life with friends, colleagues or family. The whole summer you can enjoy (live) entertainment, comedy and sing-along nights are organized and you can play traditional Dutch games with your family or a group of friends. Children (big and small) can also enjoy the daily playground with trampolines, hay bales, covered wagon, tug of war, ring toss, shuffleboard and much more.

Organic and local food at city terrace ‘de Prairie’

Chef Erling, together with the Phood team, is at the helm of the Prairie kitchen and provides all visitors with organic, local dishes using products from his own land – the Phood Farm. The dishes on the menu include Kemper farm chicken with potatoes and asparagus, spit-roasted cauliflower, (oyster mushroom) croquettes or fresh tomato salad. For the kids there’s a ‘donkey-platter’ and fresh farmhouse ice cream. Unique is the live-barbecue that serves both completely vegan, as well as hybrid and natural meat!

Enjoy the smooth-over ruins between the hay bales

The De Caai grounds are in full development and will be transformed into the Prairie this summer: amidst the smoothed-over ruins, we will soon see grasses, wild flowers, herbs, straw bales and farm animals. A place where residents of Eindhoven and the surrounding area, but also visitors from far beyond, can experience all kinds of things for 11 weeks. “All of the materials from the Prairie will be reused after the event and used on our own land to grow vegetables,” emphasize Tim and Sabine, who prepare and grow their food at PHOOD Farm in exactly the same way.

De Prairie will be open from Wednesday through Sunday from 15 June on and admission is free, with the exception of ticketed events. The location is the Hugo van der Goeslaan 2-03 in Eindhoven. Besides the optimal atmosphere and cosiness, the visitor will get a glimpse of the future of De Caai. GEVA Vastgoed and BPD | Building Fund Area Development show images of what the site will look like.
