Five Star Lager | Beer cans with discount code for ride home

This January USA’s second-largest ride sharing company Lyft teamed up with Chicago’s Baderbrau Brewing on Five Star Lager. They created beer cans with discount codes for the ride home. Hoping to reach drunk drivers and to persuade them to call for a ride home.

Five Star Lager

Collected data showed Lyft that nightlife is one of the largest business segments of the company, especially going on Friday or Saturday nights. Despite the abundance of data, it is hard to figure out how and when someone decides to get home. The Five Star Lager seemed like just the tool to help.

Five Star Lager will be available in selected bars in 12-ounce cans, each of which will feature a discount code for as much as $5 off a Lyft ride. The beer is in fact a rebranded version of one of Baderbrau’s easiest-drinking beers, South Side Pride, a crisp Helles lager. The idea is that people rather end evenings with an easy-drinking palate cleanser such as Five Star. And while drinking it, a customer will enter the discount code into the Lyft app and get a discounted ride to their next stop.

The partnership isn’t the first time Lyft has teamed up with a beer company. For the past two years, the company has worked with Anheuser-Busch to provide thousands of free rides home during weekends and holidays in select cities.
