Dutch National RestaurantPITCH | From dream to kickstart at the Horecava


In the upcoming weeks, the Horecava, Lightspeed and Sligro are looking for hospitality talents to join the Dutch National RestaurantPITCH contest. This new and unique contest gives candidates the opportunity to achieve their dreams of having their own restaurant. The person with the winning restaurant concept will receive a fully-featured pop-up restaurant during the Horecava, which takes place from Monday the 8th until Thursday the 11th of January 2018 in RAI Amsterdam. Signing up can be done until the 21st of June.

Guidance from top chef Michiel van der Eerde

The dream of the winner of the Dutch National RestaurantPITCH will come true. During the upcoming Horecava event, they’ll be provided with a fully-equipped 800 m2 area and brand awareness in the Dutch food sector. In order to make the concept a success, the winner will get professional guidance from master chef Michiel van der Eerde. Michiel is rewarded with the titel of being the Most Recognized Hospitality Entrepreneur of 2016/2017. Furthermore, he was jury member of the Dutch MasterChef television show and is owner of the BAUT pop-up restaurants in Amsterdam.

Dutch National RestaurantPITCH | Purpose

The Horecava, Lightspeed and Sligro will collaborate to inspire hospitality professionals. Both the Horecava (trade fair for food professionals), Lightspeed (known for its payment systems for hospitality and retail businesses) and Sligro (partner for food professionals) support a wide variety of businesses in all aspects of their day-to-day operations to achieve their ambitions. With this contest, they offer a chance to hospitality talents to expand their ideas and turn their ideas into a concrete plan in the form of a pop-up restaurant during the Horecava. All with the purpose to help them promote their own business.

How does it work?

The contest runs in two stages. In the first phase, the candidates send in their business ideas, via National RestaurantPITCH. A jury, consisting of experts Michiel van der Eerde, entrepreneur Saskia Post and financial specialist Maikel Lindewegen, are ‘responsible’ for the applications. If the jury in the preliminary round decides that a concept is strong enough, the idea will continue to the second phase. In this phase, 15 nominated candidates will present their ideas to the jury at Sligro’s ZiN Inspiration Lab. The finalist will be chosen and announced on the 4th of September. Under the watchful eye of coach Michiel van der Eerde, the winning concept is rolled out and the pop-up restaurant will come to life during Horecava 2018.
