Chouffe Classic | Touring the beautiful tree-filled landscape

The Chouffe Classic was originally held in the Belgian Ardennes, the area where the Chouffe beer has been brewed for forty years and which is also popular among Dutch cyclists. The route is always picturesque and full of great challenges – and like Belgium, the Netherlands also has such terrain to offer. In Drenthe, you can even make altimeters on the Col du Vam, known for the Dutch National Cycling Championships in 2020 and 2021. This first Dutch edition of Chouffe Classic has routes of 65, 115 and 165 kilometres. The start is at the cycling track in Hoogeveen, after which it leads through the beautiful, tree-filled landscape of Drenthe. And those aren’t just miles; Drenthe’s Mooiste – the Erik Dekker Classic – was previously held here. After the finish of the Chouffe Classic, every participant will receive a well-deserved cold Chouffe and everyone can settle down at the Chouffe Chalet for a drink with cycling friends.

All on the route

The Chouffe Classic is part of We Are Cycling that organizes more than fifty events every year for cyclists of all levels in six European countries. The cycling tour in Drenthe is organized by Golazo Nederland and project manager Johan Meijer is looking forward to it: “Many cyclists in the Netherlands are not yet familiar with the unprecedented beauty and wonderful cycling opportunities that South Drenthe offers. We are going to change that. Cycling through the woods, over the heath and past picturesque villages and dolmens – it’s all on the route. The Col du Vam is in the course twice, so a good climb is also present!”

About Chouffe

The story of the Achouffe brewery reads like a fairy tale. “A hobby that got out of hand,” is what the founders say. In 1982 two brothers-in-law started brewing in the Ardennes village of Achouffe, near Houffalize. Together they had a total of 5,000 euros to invest. On August 27, 1982, the first La Chouffe brew was ready and meanwhile, 40 years later, Chouffe is the number 1 among the Ardennes beers, served in more than 50 countries worldwide. All this under the watchful eye of dwarf Marcel, lover of good beer, who can be found on the iconic label. For more information take al ook at their website.
