De guests of Velo (Vietnamese restaurant in London) can order their menu through a row of touchscreens. You order on screen, you pay on screen and then you watch the status of your order as it progresses through the kitchen. Velo serves traditional Vietnamese street food – light, tasty and healthy.

Milk cube

Students of the Rijn IJssel College in Arnhem (the Netherlands) won the first prize with a milk cube for in the coffee. The milk cube looks the same as a lump of sugar, but is made of milk powder and stays edible for 3 years. The company won the prize as Best Overall Company during the International Student Company Festival in Riga.

For the Nutella lovers: in Germany and Italy, Nutella fast food restaurants are opened. They offer a wide choice of delights such as pancakes, biscuits, muffins, milkshakes, pasta and pizza made from Nutella.

Update: In Chicago an Eataly opened with a Nutella-restaurant as well.

Vacuum shapeable chair

Lapo Germasi, a 24-year-old Industrial Design student from Italy, designed the Inspiration Chair. The chair is made of an electro-welded PVC cube, low-density polyurethane balls and a suction valve. The Inspiration Chair can be suctioned into any preferred shape by a vacuum cleaner.

Become a fan and choose your favorite burger

To create a social media fanclub, Café Causette of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel (Hong Kong) launches the mini-hamburger-campaign. Guests can vote for their favorite burger, and the winning burger deserves to be on the menu. Before guests can vote, they do have to become a member of their Facebook-page.

A nice example of twitter for restaurants. Ryan Sutton, the NYC food critic for Bloomberg news, posted a photo from a small part of the menu of restaurant The Dutch in NY. As far as we could find The Dutch aren’t present on twitter so perhaps they find out that their dish, foie gras hot dog, is used as inspiration via Horecatrends ;-).
