Every day, we spot fun and inspiring new concepts. This week, Les Petits Canelés has opened its first shop in the Jordaan neighbourhood in Amsterdam, offering traditional and flavourful French canelés, also in surprising variations such as matcha, coffee, orange and coconut. Baked Amsterdam introduces a revamped baked potato in the Westerpark in Amsterdam. The baked potato has crispy skins, homemade toppings and is made of locally grown Agria potatoes, a contemporary twist on comfort food for a quick, nutritious meal.

We wish these entrepreneurs and their teams the best of luck and lots of fun with their new and renovated concepts.

A taste of Bordeaux in Amsterdam | Les Petits Canelés

On August 30, Les Petits Canelés opened its first branch in Amsterdam’s bustling Jordaan district, after a year of trading at Amsterdam’s markets. The shop at the Eerste Lindendwarsstraat 11-H brings the classic canelé to the Netherlands in a unique combination of French tradition, craftsmanship and modern taste.

Owner Coco, originally from Bordeaux, started the business because he could hardly find traditional canelés in Amsterdam. Now, they are baked daily according to the family recipe: a crispy exterior, a soft, custard-like centre and subtle notes of rum and vanilla. Flavour variations such as orange, coffee, matcha and coconut are also added to the menu.

The choice of the Jordaan neighbourhood underlines the importance of local roots in an area known for its character and atmosphere. The shop concept ties in with the previously established market offering, pop-ups in well-known bakeries, and transforms it into a permanent location with its own identity. Visitors can either visit the shop spontaneously to purchase products or order online in advance and collect their order.

Les Petits Canelés celebrated a small milestone in October when they were featured in one of the largest food magazines in the Netherlands, the Delicious, a monthly magazine focused on food and cooking.

Baked potato with character | Baked Amsterdam

In the heart of Amsterdam’s Westerpark neighbourhood, Baked Amsterdam created a fresh reinterpretation of the baked potato. The business was set up when founder Sophie decided to swap her office job for the oven after seventeen years in the corporate world. Her goal: to offer a meal that provides both comfort and quality, something she felt was missing in Amsterdam’s grab-and-go market.

The core of the concept: perfectly baked golden yellow Agria potatoes, grown by Polder Potato in Dronten. They are served with generous toppings, such as cheddar with beans in tomato sauce, beef chilli or smoked salmon with crème fraîche, lemon and dill.

The choice for the Westerpark fits in well with the concept: a lively, creative urban neighbourhood with amenities for residents and visitors, the location provides space for quick takeaways, but also for a relaxed atmosphere once seating is available. What sets Baked Amsterdam apart is its focus on origin and quality. Sophie consciously works with small-scale producers. The potatoes, for example, are locally grown, and the toppings are prepared in-house, without unnecessary processing. This approach underlines the aim of providing “comfort food that makes you feel good”. Baked Amsterdam opened on October 6 and will remain open until February, after which YoYo’s Ice Corner will return to the premises on Hugo de Grootplein.
