Every day, we spot fun and inspiring new concepts. This week, a unique summer collaboration: Summer Terrace by Bisous, a charming new ice cream shop in Leiden called De IJshaven, and a new owner for Foodmaster Alphen aan den Rijn.

Restaurant Bisous is closed for the month of August and has launched Summer Terrace by Bisous on the terrace of restaurant Daalder. In Leiden, a new artisanal ice cream shop has opened at Haven 20: De IJshaven – the dream of entrepreneurs Esther and Zoë. And in Alphen aan den Rijn, Foodmaster has welcomed a new owner. In addition to the standard menu, she will introduce specialty items such as homemade rendang.

We wish these entrepreneurs and their teams the best of luck and lots of fun with their new concepts.

Summer Terrace by Bisous  | Restaurant Bisous is going al fresco

For the entire month of August, restaurant Bisous is taking over the beautiful terrace of renowned restaurant Daalder of chef Dennis Huwaë at the Postjesweg 1 in Amsterdam. Think champagne, fresh cocktails, shared dining and that signature Bisous warmth – now under the summer sun. Their own terrace on the Albert Cuypstraat is small – so this is your chance to enjoy Bisous with a golden glow. Dennis is a fan of Bisous and is handing them the keys to his beloved Daalder location for a summer filled with flavor, flair and sparkles.

The Summer Terrace by Bisous is located by the water and bathes in sunlight all day long. Take a seat on the soft waterfront sofa and enjoy a glass of Moët & Chandon champagne with delicious bites. Or settle in at one of the tables for an al fresco multi-course dinner beneath the fluttering, colorful Bisous fabrics. Enjoy already iconic Bisous dishes such as the Sole de Mer – a whole sea bass baked in a salt crust – or the Tournedos au Poivre Concassé. Chef Dennis has also added two Daalder Classics to the Bisous menu: Toast Tajima – wagyu ham with winter truffle – and Poulet au Caviar. Pair your meal with one of the exquisite Burgundy wines Bisous is known for, and you’ll be transported straight to the Riviera.

On weekends, Bisous opens its doors after dinner to Bisous After Hours, the night bar inside Het Sieraad. Resident Bisous DJs spin their sets here, joined by exciting new names you won’t want to miss. Dance the night away in a space that feels like a secret slice of Paris in Amsterdam. It’s the perfect spot if you’re in the mood to dance after dinner—or drop by for late-night cocktails and bites on the terrace, followed by a little groove. The after-dinner club of the Summer Terrace by Bisous operates on a guest list and is open all summer long, every Friday and Saturday night from 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Check out their website for reservations, link in the title.

IJshaven in Leiden

In an idyllic spot in Leiden (just check out their reel), partners Esther (31) and Zoë (30) have opened their ice cream shop, IJshaven (translation: ice cream port). The shop officially opened this past May—just in time for ice cream season. Esther and Zoë have both lived in Leiden since 2013 and met during their student days. They sell their artisanal ice cream at Haven 20. We enjoyed a delicious scoop of ‘Key West Lemon Pie’!

The shop is especially popular with locals and walkers heading to or from Leiden’s Singelpark. They also offer a loyalty card—collect a stamp with each scoop, and once your card is full, you get two free scoops. Since making their dream of starting a business together a reality, Esther and Zoë have picked up a new hobby: checking the weather app! In their opinion, 24 to 27 degrees Celsius is the perfect temperature for selling ice cream.

New Owner for Foodmaster Alphen aan den Rijn

The Foodmaster location at Lijsterlaan 32 in Alphen aan den Rijn has a new owner. Bianca, an experienced entrepreneur with a deep passion for hospitality and food, is taking over the reins. What makes this takeover special? She plans to combine the familiar Foodmaster menu with authentic Indonesian influences, such as a specialty like homemade rendang. Guests can also stop by for a slush or an ice cream topped with boba.

Bianca is no stranger to the hospitality industry. With nearly ten years of experience in the snack bar sector and nine years as the owner of a successful Indonesian toko, she brings a wealth of knowledge and flavor to the Alphen location. After living in the town for five years, it feels like the perfect place to unite her love for food and entrepreneurship. “The location is easily accessible and situated on a beautifully renovated street just outside the city center. I want to create a place where everyone feels welcome,” says Bianca.
