In addition, we received the message that Bird Brewery from Amsterdam scored 5 times gold at the World Beer Awards 2018, in the article a list of the winning beers! Trends we spotted | Week 33

At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, amongst others about the Amsterdam Terraces Festival at the end of August in the Rembrandtpark during which the finish of the summer is celebrated. Starbucks joins forces with a cryptocurrency venture so that the Bitcoin could break through as regular currency. Next weekend the GinFever festival will be held in Schiedam and the Dutch coffee concept Kaldi opens its first branch in Denmark. Chiringuito has opened in a former public toilet in London (and it looks great!) and in Paris you can enjoy ‘Ducasse sur Seine’ as from September 4th.

The next generation of Capsule hotels | The Millennials

In March the second luxury capsule hotel of ‘The Millennials’ brand opened in Tokyo. Following the huge success of their first iteration, opened last year in Kyoto. The next generation of capsule hotels attracted the attention from many overseas guests and medias. The Millennials is the latest hotel from Japanese developer Global Agents and they’re finally bringing its brand to Tokyo with a first location in the bustling Shibuya district. With a new concept based on ‘Living in the future’, The Millennials re-imagines the capsule hotel concept through high-tech facilities, technology and social spaces to bring a formerly utilitarian concept into the realm of semi-luxury. The goal of Japanese developer Global Agents with The Millennials is to go beyond what people have come to expect from this type of hotel and create a new option for today’s customer who wants both affordability & style. read more

Taco Tuesdays | At Club Mexicana and The Spread Eagle in London

This month Meriel Armitage’s Club Mexicana and The Spread Eagle, London’s first 100% vegan pub in Hackney, will host a series of one-off Taco Tuesdays to kick start the summer. Joining Meriel at the pass will be a line-up of Club Mexicana’s friends from the London food scene, including vegetarian chef and best-selling Author Anna Jones, chef Neil Rankin of Temper, and organic sourdough pizza experts Radio Alice, all ready to put their own vegan spin on the traditional Mexican taco, whilst The Spread Eagle’s Sherri Lee Eastabrook will be shaking up the pub’s signature cocktails to wash things down. Greyhound café | Is launching their terrace with a splash

On April 12th, Greyhound Café, the first London outpost of the cult Thai restaurant, will launch their outdoor terrace just in time to celebrate Thai New Year. Traditionally marked with a water festival, Greyhound will be bringing the custom to London with a splash, celebrating with a week of non-stop revelry complete with specially created sharing dishes, festival cocktail buckets, and even a water pistol or two. The Greyhound Café is a modern Bangkok cafe in London’s Fitzrovia, serving Thai street food with modern twists. read more

Forget black charcoal ice cream | 2018, it’s all about gold: 24Karat gold ice cream!

We here in the Netherlands are longing for some sunshine! But we haven’t spotted Spring yet although some ice cream parlors are opening their doors. And we do spot more and more ice cream on our timeline, like recently the 24Karat gold ice cream made by Snowopolis in Anaheim, California. They serve a scope of vanilla soft ice cream packed in edible gold leaf. You could even use a spray with edible gold or silver, which makes it even easier to make this ‘very Instagrammable’ ice cream! read more
