The designer Shu-Chun Hsiao in Taiwan developed a number of birdhouses inspired by the Google Maps icon. Shu-Chun Hsiao creates the Google Birdhouse a merger between the physical and virtual worlds. Today people find their way through technology, the designer wanted to make the birdhouse become the destination as Google Maps does. Actually every hotel or restaurant in the country needs to have a birdhouse like this on the outside.

Together with the Finnish company PowerKiss, McDonald’s is developing special tables to recharge your phone automatically when you put him on the table. By using the QI technology and a wireless power transmission the tables can transfer power to phones and / or headsets. At this moment, McDonald’s is testing the tables in Europe.

Urban Coffee Farm in Melbourne

The Australian design firm HASSELL designed the ‘Urban Coffee Farm and Brew Bar’ for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. A total of 125 coffee trees have transformed the ‘Red Stairs’ (a popular public Amphitheatre in Melbourne) into a terraced coffee farm. Shipping containers, packaging crates and timber pallets have also been added to demonstrate the journey that coffee beans take. This will creates a unique experience while visitors sit among the trees sipping their coffee. More pictures at PSFK.

Apartment complex for large groups

Singapore-based Wangz opened ‘The Forest by Wangz’ serviced apartments in December 2011. The apartments are designed to cater for single and couple travelers, be it for business or leisure. Each apartment has a kitchenette and communal dining area, allowing groups to cook or eat together. The building has also been designed with extra doors fitted in the corridors, so that several rooms can be privately sectioned off for slightly larger families.

Club Vie in Rotterdam reopened

Club Vie in Rotterdam reopened its doors on Friday 1 March after a complete renovation. Our colleague Armand Sol was invited for the premiere and visited the venue. Club Vie is partly positioned under the ‘Willemsbrug’ and has two floors. The lower floor ‘The Jaxx’ has a nice river view and a ceiling that changes color. The upper floor has a dance floor and four different sitting areas on various levels. Because of the playful location of these sitting areas, the club breathes an intimate atmosphere that is not usual in other similar sized clubs. The LED lights are installed by InventDesign and provides a luxurious glance to the club’s interior.

Inside the colorful carboard boxes by Martins Café, a coffeebrand from the vicinity of Sao Paulo, you don’t expect to find coffee. The boxes are colorful, retro and with their robot logo printed on the cardboard. Martins Café is a Brazilian brand of specialty coffee which comes in the variants cardamom, anise, cinnamon, nutmeg and 100% Arabica. Former Noma sous-chefs are opening restaurant

Two former Noma sous-chefs Samuel Nutter and Victor Wagman will open a new restaurant named Bror, in the heart of Copenhagen next month. Currently there are not many details available, but they will grow their own vegetables on Sejerø island. The two chefs have opened a Twitter and Facebook account to keep people up to date on the progress.
